2015 Willow Springs Drags

Hey Guys, anyone planning on rolling out this Saturday 7/11/15?

I have upgraded my street tires to MT ET Streets Drag Radials and they hook WAY better than the other two sets of tires that were on the car previously.

Not sure how much mileage I'll get, but since I don't drive the car much it won't matter.

I will pass on Willow this time since I am too tired, and elderly, to change tires even if it is not going to be quite as hot as it has been, and, last time my car was slow, which depressed me, even though I beat 03_Sonic_Blur a couple of times. But, unless they get their act together, my car is too boring to make it worth the effort. Just put it in regular drive and push the go pedal and hold it there until the finish. No talent required and zero excitement or satisfaction. 03_Sonic_Blur, on the other hand, ran significantly more MPH than my car and I could hear him closing, but, he had to launch his manual trans car, and, at Willow, that is never easy. But, it is also a clear measure of driving talent and touch.

However, for those that have interesting cars to drive, and who want to run them hard without any risks of a bad exhibition of speed citation, Willow is a good answer. It is cheap and you do get a time slip, so you can see how well you are doing. For them I offer the advice that they should get there a bit early (half an hour should do) and register ASAP, and get their car through tech stat, and then line up to run as soon as the track opens for runs. Hot lap after that if you want to get a lot of runs, since it gets really crowded and long waits happen as the evening progresses. And, due to the manner in which Willow stages the cars, you may as well hot lap since you will heat the car up in the staging lanes anyway.

I just wish that they would let motorcycles run.

So, did you dust off the car and go? If so, was it OK, as in did they fix some of their issues and the crowding in the pits?

I see that they are running the drag racing tonight, Sat, Sept. 19. It is a nice day out, and I am tempted, but, getting the car set up for Willow is work, and, work is a very bad four letter word. But, the DA might be acceptable, although not excellent as it has started to be a bit cooler out as summer winds down.

It got in the mid to high 90's all of a sudden and so I decided as I saw no apparent interest and since it was really too crowded last time, that I'd pass. Perhaps I will consider the final event of the year, depending upon what my social obligations around Thanksgiving end up being. It is a day event, and it should be much better DA. Of course, if Willow were a real drag strip with a proper timing system and better staging and a full 1/4, even if they did not prep at all, I'd be a lot more interested. But, it appears to be getting somewhat popular so they may be on to something, and 1000' is better than 1/8th of a mile.
