Ford Debuts Special Edition Raptor at Motor Press Guild Luncheon
LOS ANGELES, April 1, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- On April 9, 2013, Ford will debut images of the 2014 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor Special Edition with new appearance upgrades at the Motor Press Guild (MPG) luncheon held at Ford Motor Company Design Center Showroom in Irvine. Since the first Ford Model T car with a modified rear body rolled off the assembly line in 1925, Ford Motor Company has been on the forefront of defining the American pickup truck. More than 80 years later, Ford Truck Group Marketing manager, Doug Scott will discuss the company's current position in the truck category and provide an exclusive preview of the newest addition to its line.
In addition to previewing the Special Edition Raptor, Scott will provide analysis of Ford's position in this competitive marketplace that has had Ram, GM and others hot on its tail for decades. Scott will also review Ford's current line-up of F-Series pickups and how it maintains the necessary versatility to attract a variety of industries, from agriculture to fire fighting. Real world examples of Ford F-Series Trucks used for work in Southern California will be displayed, including a San Diego County Fire Authority F-150 SVT Raptor rescue truck and one of Grimmway Farm's – the nation's largest carrot producer, located in Bakersfield – F-150 EcoBoost field trucks.
To continue its transition in meeting the needs of entrepreneurs, large fleets and professional contractors, Scott will also discuss the Ford Transit and Transit Connect next-generation fleet of vans that offer leading fuel economy and utility.
"With the industry focus on fuel-efficient, smaller cars, it's easy to forget that trucks are a dominant segment in the American market. This luncheon will give a closer look at the uniquely American truck market -- and the first look at the newest version of Ford's ultimate performance truck, the 2014 SVT Raptor Special Edition," said Aaron Gold, MPG president.

I love the Raptor. It is so non-PC.
I wish Ford would make a smaller version, with a great suspension and a bunch of power. The current version will barely fit down many of the streets of San Miguel. There are several running around here, I lust for them even as impractical as they are.

The truck was/is incredible.
It was HUGE though.
The best thing about it is we live near the environment the vehicle was developed in and actually got out to where it was tested.
I've been to a couple of the Raptor Roundups, had Ford engineers in my truck and ran my truck on the dirt track out in Las Vegas. The Ford engineers were telling me to "go faster, it can take it" over the whoops on that track. There were a couple times I had all four wheels off the ground.
When I saw this truck at the dealership on the lot, I fell in love immediately. So much so that I traded my cherry Viper SRT10 in on it!
The Raptor got me into offroading (something I had NEVER done before) and camping. Neither of which I was ever interested in prior since I was into sports cars. We went everywhere in that truck. Anza, the Grand Canyon, Death Valley, etc
I traded it in last year, but it has been one of my favorite vehicles ever.

Damn, you are more impulsive than I am (was).
We should start a " most out of control purchase ever" thread. Sorta like total cost divided by minutes of thought before purchase factored by the " recovery" when one awakened from the coma and said "I bought what?".

My wife is very understanding....with all the vehicles I have bought, sold and then bought in the past 5 years she has never given me any shit about any of them.jhwalker wrote:Damn, you are more impulsive than I am (was).

Re: Ford to unveil special edition SVT Raptor April 9th, 201
So, what does all the "Special Edition" come with? I love the new color. I actually like the first model year's wheels better than this second generation, as they sort of reminded me of the 10th Anniversary Cobra wheels.
I am really starting to lust after one of these beasties. Something I have been able to suppress for several years. But, with all the Cobra events, tracks closing and folks going their own ways, I am back looking at these things.
I am used to the "huge" feeling after driving a big SUV at work for years and then driving the wife's Ram when I could pry the keys from her. There is something to what you are saying.. just driving it around town the last few days, in and out of parking lots and tight spots, etc it is different.
But, I would really want the room of a full crew cab and possibly what little improvement in ride the added wheelbase brings with it. I have had many nice, hefty trucks over the last ten years myself, including a really sweet old Edison snow plow '86 F350 standard cab, with rubber mats, manual hubs, Trans, and 460 with believe it or not, a Carb! That, to a Extra cab Dodge 3500 fully loaded with leather, auto-everything, but the honkin V-10.
Anyway, I just wonder if I could stumble into a first generation xtra cab model that slipped through the cracks with a 5.4 up for sale by someone who doesn't know what they have and get it down in my current price range.

The special edition is just "Bold New Graphics". As a biker I am sure you will appreciate that explanation.Brakelate wrote:So, what does all the "Special Edition" come with? I love the new color. Nothing functional changed on the truck for the SE model.
