Brand New Air Filter after Mojave Road Trip

What the hell caused this??? That is supposed to be a Ford / Fram dry paper filter element correct? What is all the oily residue and moisture? Yikes!

Haha, this was after I did the Mojave Road trip a couple years ago.

Right past Afton Canyon, the Mojave River has an outlet where there are areas that are wet. Not enough water to cause a hydrolock, but enough that things will get splashed if you are running at speed.

That trip I guess some water got up into the air box and caused that muddy looking mess on my airfilter.

After those sorts of trips, I would always check and replace the air filter on that truck.

Definitely! Anytime I go 4x4ing I always check critical areas of the vehicle.

WIth the Jeep Wrangler I have, I always check control arm bolts and track bar bolts before and after a trip.

Yup. After any hard running, track day, drag strip or off roading I always go over everything. On pavement, you break in town. Out in the sticks, you break... you might just be walking (or at the very least sitting) for a very long time in a terribly uncomfortable, if not flat out dangerous environment. Dehydration and Hypothermia are no joke.
