Power Wagons can float?

Post by Brakelate »

So, with the recent visit of my buddy Rob from LA, they wanted to go on a little evening cruise around the lake to see the dam, etc.

Well, being a weekend and not wanting to deal with the crowded, though massive multiple launch ramps in the immediate area, we decided to just "shore launch" it. We had done this previously numerous times with great success. I guess you just have to watch who you "C'mon Back" guy is!!!

Apparently, instead of a nice, gradual decline of the shoreline into the water, we ended up on a submerged shelf of some sort, that had us backing, and backing and backing up, without ever floating the boat off the trailer bunks. I was just listening to Rob... "Yup, C'mon Back!" and never really looked around to see how far from shore we were, until water was lapping on the truck's doors! Arghhh! :o

All was fine, until stupid me opened the driver side door to see why it appeared the tires were underwater. :shifty:

The driver side was considerably deeper in than the passenger side where the photos were shot. This is actually the recovery, which went amazingly well, once we put the periscope up. Pulled right out, boat, trailer and all without a hint of wheelspin or anything. Power Wagon for the win!

People were looking at us all funny, and I just didn't understand why until I looked up and noticed we were damn near out to the "No Wake" zone buoys!

*I was concerned about water contamination to the diffs, etc. But, when checked, all were fine! No damage, only slightly wet carpet under my floor mat where I opened the door on that side.

Damnit, Jay! If you don't get in a Dodge commercial soon, you'll have to fire your agent!

Dude, how the hell did I miss this? Very much fun. And gutsy.

I could never shore launch the Ski Nautique as it was an inboard. It took 22" plus a hair to clear the prop. The Seadoos of course could be dumped in anywhere. Which brings back fun memories of getting up on the slalom ski behind the Wake after being pulled underwater like a fishing lure for what seemed like an endless amount of time. Never has so much energy gone into something that ended up being so worthless. If I did anything other than just ride the ski behind the Wake I would stop forward progress and start sinking like a stone...
