OK. Link works now. Yeah, and that first lap was from a legitimate standing start! So, he had to really be hauling the freight out up in the hills to chip away at the lack of a running start where you begin the lap all warmed up and running at race speed.
Funny about the Soviet Ball Bearings. I was just reading a big write up, with amazing pictures of the numerous abandoned "Space Shuttle" look-alikes that the Soviets had made in the early '80s, flew once with great precision and confirmed it was a viable platform. They then basically dropped the tools where they stood, walked off, closed the massive hangar doors and let them rot for the last 30 years. Totally insane stuff. Tremendous amount of then, cutting edge top secret technology, knowledge and unimaginable expense. Only to just walk away one day. Quite totally and literally in every sense. What a waste.
But, like all of their Cold War Era Nuke components, silos and launch vehicles; They are all still out there. Somewhere. Perhaps rotting and overgrown, reclaimed by the earth. Perhaps a new jungle-jim for the local kids at the park, or perhaps looted, scattered all over the world, refurbished and sold to god only knows who, just waiting to pop back up in the hands of some complete idiot governing body or dictatorship, thus posing a HUGE global threat to us all... and who will now have to go in, find, secure and safely dismantle and dispose of this shit? The good old USA - world police. The former, and very likely current main target of all of these things. So, like it was said about the radical jihaddists, "It is better to fight them there on their streets, than here, in ours", we may in the coming years find it more intelligent, efficient and resulting in less potential exposure to some accident or negligent discharge to attempt to locate, contain, secure and dismantle the stuff over there, then in later trying to track it down from every dark corner of the world, or shoot it down when some ass-hat gets antsy and pushes the big red button because of some silly argument over property lines, port access or worthless islands in the South Pacific off the Korean / China coast.
What a mess we humans make of things. It is never ending.

Yes, that is a "discussion" that our nation ought to have. That is, just what are the agreed boundaries of self defense? Is pre-emptive self defense ever right? If so, how do you define it? When, on what facts, do you know that there really is a plan of attack that justifies such pre-emption? And then, when does it cross over into offense? And what do you do about internal disagreements on the answers to those questions? While in theory you can make the case for such pre-emption, what do you do to ascertain and confirm the facts that might support it in practice?
Take a hard case, Israel, surrounded by religicidal Islamics who appear to be willing to use the bomb pre-emptively too kill them all - if done, then too late - total obliteration, no defensive second chances, no retaliation possible, no deterrence at all, no do overs? On what facts is it right and proper for Israel to pre-empt that?

I couldn't tell if this vid was embedded in the others...
http://www.sportrider.com/video-guy-mar ... f=obinsite
and the one where the guys almost ran into each other.

If these vids were in the other post, so solly.
I love the way they ride. And so happy I would not even think of really riding fast.

VERY complicated topic, indeed. I guess for now, we just hope that all of these "splinter countries" and those who are working to attain these devises continue to lack funding, fail to obtain good, quality key components, and in Isreal's case, they just keep Assassinating anyone who is significant in the program's development - scientists, suppliers and the "brains" behind the whole process. Of course, this never admitted or acknowledged, but a good, cheap and clean "elimination" such as the band of motorcyclists who ride up besides these guys on the way to and from the "office" and open fire on them and thus halt their work is a cheap, easy and semi-deniable tactic in terms of responsibility for stopping these programs in their tracks.xbacksideslider wrote:Yes, that is a "discussion" that our nation ought to have.
I wish we could get rid of all that shit... like Chemical Weapons. Too much power, in the hands of too few.
No one wants to "lose" or be enslaved, conquered or any of those fun things, but I think we all would ultimately prefer to survive in some fashion, as opposed to turning the world into one big Marshmello Fireball for all of eternity.
I just never could wrap my brain around the religious prejudices and such that go to such radical extremes... isolate, group up, live with like minded individuals, whatever. But, I have never felt the need to kill for color of skin, or belief in a "higher power" other than one's own. But, it has been that way since the dawn of mankind. Why should it stop now?
Just plain stupid. Live and let live. Wars for food, access to ports, markets and trade routes or things of that nature, I can understand. But killing and dying for the intangible, I do not get.

Hadn't seen those, so thanks.jhwalker wrote:

They have to set those bikes up so "loose" to handle the rough, real world road surface, that they just buck and bounce and headshake all over the place.
Running against the clock, alone on the course would be challenging enough. I could not imagine the fear, frustration and added dangers when traffic is mixed into that whole scenario. Like trying to ride to bucking Brahma Bulls side by side down a corridor at a baseball stadium... at insane speeds.
The on-bike sights and sounds are interesting. Big differences in how their individual strengths and weaknesses, and obvious power curves and shift points. The tone of that "flat plane" Yamaha sounded like he was "short shifting" it, but I imagine he surely was not leaving anything on the table, other than a little mental margin for human error.

Re: Isle of Man results - CBR1000RR - the best Liter Bike?
I suspect that the outcome of the Isle of Man is very much a matter of "knowing the road." One commentator said that for several years McGuinness refused to allow an onboard camera because he wanted his lines to remain his and in a time trial format, those secret tricks could remain so for years, just run off and keep the also rans ignorant. That said, apart from his relationship with his sponsoring Honda dealer, if that CBR was deficient, then he could ride any bike he wants. No doubt he has the set up he wants and setting up a different later model liter bike would be risky, unknown. This year, we saw someone, (Dunlop?) jump from the hot diggity dog latest deal R1 to the BMW four cylinder super duper but then . . . . . he didn't win on it.
Yeah, wish mine was the 2014 model with superior suspension and ports. Still, it lacks the latest traction control stuff which IS the future. They might, someday, build a bike that won't fall over, no need for a kick stand?

How about everyone start saving for a 2018 trip to Isle of Man? I will talk to the guy here who has attended for the past 25 years. See what he budgets, and why he chooses to attend the "vintage" week rather than the "big dawg" week? Terri already told me that she is all for it, which makes it easier for me to not have to hide the savings... Anyone interested?

Yes, interested, can't say "in" yet, but interested. Certainly far enough out to plan for it.
