It was a financial necessity at the time. Besides, you would not ride with me on it, calling it a cheater. Then again, I had it just long enough to make a midnight run to Laughlin and back and then make a run down to Malibu , where where a modern, light and agile pack of sumos couldn't shake me and one 250 in particular crashed out trying to run from me. So, perhaps it WAS a cheater.Tetge wrote:Sure, you liked it so much that you rode the bike a couple of times and got rid of it.

I totally forgot that the first day I met the white storm trooper he crashed out on a casual bike cruise! What a squid! He makes fun of me for crashing at the track...now I have some ammo to shut him up with!Brakelate wrote:It was a financial necessity at the time. Ps he is making excuses for not racing. Something about his RMZ needing new parts or something and his WR is exploded.

Re: 2002 ZRX-1200R
As I said, what do I know? However, if there is urgent need for immediate cash, selling the Rex would make sense. However, I still will not buy into the fact that you necessarily will be able to restore that 550 into decent running condition cheaply. You might get lucky, or, you might not. I have seen plenty of cases of getting an old bike running where the unexpected ruled, and ultimate costs were significant. As Jay said, if it were a bike that you always craved, or once owned and regretted selling, etc., money is not a major concern. So, it might be an interesting story to follow.

Thanks to my eagle-eyed Ninja for catching the overspray. I sprayed a little brake cleaner on a rag and took care of all of it.
The Rex is now up for sale. I have to give it quick wipe down, change the oil, and lube the chain. None of that should take very long.

That oil should still be fresh, and after a lifetime of saturation from that crazy auto-oiler chain gizmo I removed, that chain should be good too. Unless it has been sitting in salt water since you picked it up. But yeah, a little basic maintenance and a wipe down and it should be really sharp.
I forget, did you give us a review on the seating position since the stock saddle was re-installed?
And what are you asking for that big block retro Supermoto anyway?

Oh, good to know! That'll save me some time. I messed around with the wig-wag light today just so I would know where to point the new owner.Brakelate wrote:That oil should still be fresh, and after a lifetime of saturation from that crazy auto-oiler chain gizmo I removed, that chain should be good too. I've ridden the bike a few times with the new seat and it is more comfortable. I haven't pulled a long ride on it yet though. I'm gonna put a little SeaFoam in the tank and ride it around tomorrow just to make sure everything is okay. I also have to put in the OEM coolant reservoir I got off eBay.
My initial asking price is $4250. That's a fair price compared to what's on the market, but I've only received one inquiry so far. Unfortunately, he was a low-baller offering $2800. My response was just, "No." Even if I accept a lower offer, I still want to be able to cover my purchase price plus what I spent getting the stock seat back on. Papa needs some moving money!

Re: 2002 ZRX-1200R
Still a good deal. A lot of life left in that bike.
That wig-wag unit always had me on the fence... does it work? Does it just annoy or confuse people? Not sure. It was a quality unit though, with the auto dim over ride feature and various speed / activation settings.
I saw one of those on a big assed Gold Wing not so long ago. In the daylight, oncoming two lane road. But that bike has such large, multiple headlamps and I am sure it had upgraded aftermarket bulbs on top of it all, but damn it was bright when if flashed them all off and on. Not sure that would keep me from hitting it though. I was almost annoyed and stared right at it as it passed, not thinking of how I should be cautious. A single lamp, maybe, but when that full bank of lamps fired off and on from Hi Beam, it was downright crazy.

Absolutely. Every decent bike I've seen has been priced higher. I wanted to give it an attractive price without giving it away. But, if I didn't need the money, I'd just hold on to it.
I just checked the wig-wag for functionality and it works, but it's not my cup of tea. Once I saw it worked, I just turned it off again.
