2002 ZRX-1200R
Finally picked the bike up from the local frame master, Dr. John's MFS here in Anaheim. It took them about 10 hours of labor to get it done (they only charged me for 5), but the bike has the stock seat on it once more.
I know the bike's dirty, gimme a break:
And the repairs:
I already bought an OEM coolant reservoir that I found on eBay . The one in there is an aftermarket unit because the original didn't fit under the lowered seat. I think it only cost me about $10, so it was worth it to have the OEM look, quality, and capacity back.
Before (Besides the lost leg room of the lowered seat, I was not a fan of the green coloring):

Awesome. What a fun bike. I may have to go back and get another one of these years. This time, in Red. Takes me back to my early Gpz days. As stated in your other thread, I had a 550 and later, Miki and I spent a full summer on an '82 Gpz1100.
I hope it was you, and not them that did the sloppy spray paint job, with the gloss black overspray on the tank and shock mounts, etc.
Great to see that bike get a "second chance" at life since we've had it.
So, how does the seating position feel now? I am sure glad I grabbed the stock seat along with all the other goodies when I picked it up.

Re: 2002 ZRX-1200R
Aww, crap! I was too excited to notice that. Ugh, looks like I have some cleaning to do. I have some compounds that should be able to get that stuff off. I guess they frame experts and not paint experts. Part of me was actually hoping they would leave the metal bare so I could prep and paint properly. I imagine they didn't want to go through all the trouble after being 10 hours of labor in on a job that was going to pay half that. Oh well.
The seating position feels great. I'm glad you grabbed the stock stuff too. A take-off stock seat and side covers would've run me over $200. The best part about it is not having a big fluffy, fuzzy pillow held on by a bungee cord on the seat. The bike just looks so much better now.

Scratch that. I forgot I signed up for that forum when I bought the Rex.
Yup, that one looks great. When I was looking at bikes, I was looking at the red ones exclusively, pretty much. Not a huge fan of the Kawi green.

Much nicer, and, all things considered, it should be a keeper for you since it is the proper size and cubes is cubes. But then, what do I know?

Sure, you liked it so much that you rode the bike a couple of times and got rid of it.Brakelate wrote:

I understand what you're saying, but the fact is I was already considering selling the Rex. Getting the free GPz just made it an easier decision. Selling the Rex would help pay for upcoming moving expenses and give me a little financial cushion. The cherry on top is that I still get to have a nice, classic bike to ride around on, once I breathe some life back into it for very little money out of pocket. Not to mention the GPz's 31.49" seat height is a tad taller than the Rex's 31.1" seat height, so I should be just as comfortable. I'm not too concerned about the loss in power or handling performance because I don't push the limits like you hooligans. I'll be fine putting along in the back when I finally get out on a ride with you mugs.Tetge wrote:Much nicer, and, all things considered, it should be a keeper for you since it is the proper size and cubes is cubes. I still have it and the green low-boy seat if you want them!Brakelate wrote:
