Well, I did have a moment when I was trying to keep up with a late model GSXR 1K on Mulholland between Cornel and Malibu Canyon; I was out motored/out tired but getting it back on the entries (which generally is a bad idea) and on one entry on the brakes the front was straight but sliding but then too much brake at the rear end which stepped out, so the whole bike was slightly off line but we were going fast enough that the recovery was smooth. Could have been a polished slick spot but likely just asking too much from those old hard 18" sport touring Michelins.Brakelate wrote:Yeah, I am sure you barely kept them in sight because of it too!

"Could have been a polished slick spot...." Uhh, OK 'Slider, if you say so!!!
NEWSFLASH: Apparently Tetge DID get a new Hayabusa, as this recently unearthed bootleg underground footage shows him performing some pre-pipe testing from back East as demonstrated he is still at his same old tricks! Apparently the new hip isn't holding him back... I can say I personally never did grind my stock exhaust tips or tail lamp off in any 12'O'Clock stand up OR sit down wheelies at speed!!!
Soak it in;

Wish I had as much money to waste as Tetge - burning up $200 rear tires and bolting sticks of magnesium to his license plate bracket.

No Shit!!! And that is not even taking the absolute destruction of a $16K+ motorcycle (and one's own ass) into consideration with one little glitch. But...
Both in the amazing show, and the absolute suicidal skill(?) or whatever it requires to put on such an insane show. On both accounts. Five mile long "darkies" down the highway definitely has got to have both DPS and the Highway Maintenance guys scratching their heads as to what the hell had been
going on out there.

Re: Gen II Busa vs. "new" ZX-14R video
See? The stock Busa is, after all, the fastest motorcycle on the planet. It can not even get any traction in a straight line, and, it also pulls endless wheelies. So, of course, it takes a very gifted rider to get the most out of it. Other motorcycles, that make claims to be faster, are simply a lot easier to ride.
However, I want to make it clear that when Brakelate told me how he broke in his new Busa, I never completely believed him until I saw the video.

After reading the posts, I finally watched the vid. Holy moley! Thank goodness I never considered buying one.
I love the sound of both engines.

For those who never heard the story...
I wanted to get it RIGHT from the very start. So, I did it the best way I knew how...Tetge wrote:

I rolled off the dock, idled up the block from Berts Mega Mall in Azusa to In & Out, had a Double-Double Combo with the wife, and parted ways for the rest of the afternoon. Took it up on the 210 and pulled to Redline in a few gears, spinning up the rear quite easily in 3rd, then letting it engine brake back down to get both internal compression and negative vacume pressure on the rings and internals. Ran along in 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th at freeway speeds for a minute or two at a time to vary the RPM (and yes, even much to my own surprise, laying multiple stripes down the HOV lane in the process on several occasions) and somewhat "heat cycle" it's bits until I reached the Angeles Crest Hwy exit. Then proceeded to blast it all the way up to Upper Big Tujunga and then the Forest Hwy on towards home, stopping a few times for more thorough cool down sessions and examining the tires as I gradually pushed the lean angle further and further until Chicken Strips were no more. Up to the 14, off in Palmdale, and then straight to Tetge's place where I found he and PMachy watering the front yard, scratching their heads in disbelief.
Ahhhh yes. If there were ever a way to break in a bike, that was it. Pure "SoCal" style. Absolutely wonderful in every way. Another "once in a lifetime event" in the books.

Little did I know at the time that within the next week or so I would be up toe to toe with fully modded ZX-14's at Famoso, and then running a certain pesky, yet persistent White Terminator through downtown Mojave at 3am.
Yup. Those were the days.

Re: For those who never heard the story...
I will use that as a guideline for breaking in the Ducati. I will put a hundred miles or so on it in and around Guadalajara, have the dealer fix anything that I observe (I mean, it IS a Ducati so something will not work) and then I plan to ride it back home from Guadalajara, approx. 200 miles, and I expect the break-in to be complete when I arrive home. The top end is not very high, so I will not have to reach crazy speeds to accomplish.Brakelate wrote:I wanted to get it RIGHT from the very start. So, I did it the best way I knew how...Tetge wrote:
