The people selling the house lived on the main street coming in to Bell Canyon and wanted to trade for my house . problem was they needed a 7 day escrow and there were 5 or 6 loans on the house that he took out. He was a loan broker. I backed out. Things were moving too fast.jhwalker wrote:Buckskin. (all of the brain cells didn't die yet...) Very good street. Very rustic. We moved into Bell Canyon in '90 I think. The wife is not here to clarify
A lot of car folks lived in Bell Canyon. At one time (before the 2008 meltdown ) it was like an exotic car show as folks left in the morning. Plus there was one old beater original 427 Cobra, and 4 Superformance MK IIIs.

Bell Canyon had its share of financial rogues (myself excluded of course ). Those 5-6 loans might have been done concurrently so none would show when loan underwriting was being performed on each loan. The title and escrow systems were not connected as well back in the day...Mike L. wrote:The people selling the house lived on the main street coming in to Bell Canyon and wanted to trade for my house . problem was they needed a 7 day escrow and there were 5 or 6 loans on the house that he took out. I got my Bell Canyon house on a trade with a desperate owner/builder who was ready to default. He took our Hollywood Knolls house plus $50K for the Bell Canyon house. I paid $46K for the Hollywood Knolls house back in 1973, bought it again from my first wife during our divorce, but still made a little cash in the process. We loved the near-20 years in Bell Canyon. Then the sale of the Bell Canyon house gave us the money to buy the land and build the casita and casa here in Central Mexico. It all seems like a long time ago. Dodging financial bullets year after year. It was never easy, but I was raised to work my ass off and not expect much. I had a knack for joining companies that were ready to go down, and were hiring me to perform some kind of miracle. The miracle only happened on the final job.
In any case, lots of luck was involved in things working out the way they did...
We love it down here, but I also loved the Hollywood Knolls, and Bell Canyon. Life is good.
