SCT XCAL3 question

Post by SVTRonDogg »

When loading up my performance tune, I'm always confused by the options.

Say Load Tune -> Custom Tune -> RET Street Tune

It will ask if I want to Change Settings with either of the 3 Choices below:

Keep Previous
Change
No

What do I want to pick to load my tune as it was dyno tuned? Keep Previous or No?

Also I was trying to verify my options under Tire Rotations were correct but it would appear I am locked out of that particular change.

I would think that the choice from the three you showed to load the original tune file would be "no" as you are not modifying it and there would be no changes to keep. But, that is just a guess since I have not flashed my ECU for a couple of years since my tune from RET is fairly good and I am always worried about some computer brain fart when flashing BIOS or Firmware or ECU's. I seem to recall selecting "no" when I did flash a new tune, which I did quite a bit initially in an attempt to get the throttle hang (dashpot) to calm down unsuccessfully using tune files that Greg e-mailed to me. I did have Greg unlock all the tune parameters when he made my tune file so that I could mess with them, but, I have never done so since, again, I am chicken when it comes to messing with something that is working. I thought that I might change the gearing, so I wanted to be able to modify the speedo settings, but, this too I have been scared to do.

NO is what I was thinking as well. I hate messing with the tunes as well, but it seems to be a necessary evil as the car prefers to smog with the stock tune.

You could save the existing tune before removing it to restore the stock setup and then, you would put the tune that you saved back in with no changes or modifications and that should work.

Speaking of tuning if I were to put my car back to the stock tune would that mean I would get better gas mileage since Iassume it would be using less fuel???? But idk

Not necessarily. The stock tune is a rich in certain areas, meaning you're using more fuel than necessary. You use more fuel when you have your foot to the floor. A tuned Termi at WOT should still use less fuel than a stock Termi at WOT, theoretically. YMMV... literally.

Nope. The mileage difference is in your right foot.

Ron is 100% correct. My new 5.0 has a very accurate real time MPG display and I can see the mileage dropping, or going up, depending on how hard I get into the throttle. And, it is just a weak little engine without a giant air pump that can push tons of air-fuel into it. Try driving around as if there is an egg under your foot for an entire tank, and you might be surprised at how good the mileage can get. These days I drive easy just to see the mileage creep up, although I generally only get around 20 mpg at best. Of course, why have a Cobra if you are going to drive that way?
