The infamous BSA Frank sent this one to me. I was (un)fortunate enough to get in on the sport just in time to enjoy some of these traits. Surely any "modern" bike rider will never have to experience this type of phenomenon.

The old Kawasaki KZ1000P's would do this through their entire build run, right up until the last of them rolled off the docks right around 2000. But, nothing nearly as dramatic as demonstrated in this video.

I often crave a "vintage" bike, but traits such as these are quickly forgotten, along with the modern tires, brakes, suspension, etc. You truly had to Master your machine back in the day, if you were to survive for very long.

I get a little weave on the DRZ on the gravel over packed tepetate here. Only above 60 mph. A gentle back and forth, maybe 3-4 inches. It is kind of nice. Makes it feel like the bike is alive. It feels a bit like desert riding, where you mostly keep the bike headed in the correct general direction and don't worry about all of the movement.

While Tetge's bike has proven to be solid as a rock, mine has demonstrated a bit of a weave up above 80 mph on occasion. I have narrowed it down to it being related to the front tire. The more racy tires with a V shape do it, while the street oriented tires with more of a U profile do not. It can be a little alarming the first time it happens, as when Tetge and I swapped bikes for a little bit. I forgot to mention it, and he discovered the phenomenon way up at speed.

I was alerted to the video via email by the legendary Frank of the Nor Cal BSA Owners Group. I just love those old Instructional / Drivers Training movies and watch every one that I can get my hands on. If for nothing other than to check out all the neat old bikes, cars and hair styles.
