2017 SCOF Supercruise

Postby jhwalker » Mon Sep 12, 2016 2:31 pm

In July, 2017, a bunch of us SPF-owning knuckleheads are going to drive (my plan) or trailer to Baanf, Alberta, Canada and from Baanf drive about 1200 miles of interesting Canadian roads, just for the hell of it. It will be a 1200-1300 mile drive from Hastings NE to Baanf. I will hope to throw in some side trips to push the total trip mileage to 4,000 miles. If I don't appear to be sufficiently recovered from thestrokes to drive the whole way Terri will come along and share the driving. If I am OK, she will fly into Baanf and fly back home and skip the from and to Hastings.
If the creek don't rise.
I've been interested in switching the engine in the SPF 1 mo time (one last swap) to a blown 5.0 Coyote but I don't trust that we would have a new engine 'built', and installed and everything shaken out in time. So maybe that silliness will be my 75th birthday present in 2018. By then the 5.2 Voodoo engine might be more widely available and will get the honor of being installed. Plus Terri got a whiff of my plans so I have some 'splainin (begging) to do before kicking off the engine swap project.

We have been warned that the Canadian police don't have great senses of humor about a bunch of idiots in loud cars, so Superformance is going to try to find a way to get the event 'government sanctioned' as a Canadian promotion in some way.

It'll be a great trip, no matter what engine it is.

I think so. I just had the clutch leverage modded a bit to make it easier for Terri to drive it. Just in case...

Refreshing to read of more James madness. Just what the doctor ordered. A long tour in a tiny 1000 HP car with no top and minimal luggage. And, why not go to Canada, where the conservative police have zero tolerance for wild, crazy, people. KTM owners in Canada have noted that the traffic enforcement is not tolerant. Of course they use the metric system, so they can hit 100 now and then, but, I expect that hitting the ton is only a big thing if MPH is used to measure speed.

So, another event organized by the madman. Seems like only yesterday that he was doing SVT Cobra drag strip invasions.

I bought Terri an electric blanket that plugs into the lighter socket.
I'm just tagging along on this, (pretty much). Canada has outlawed radar detectors -- you can hide them but they will cycle the radar and if they think they see a reaction, really dig to find it. Its pretty hard to hide something on an SPF anyway. On the 3000 mile trip from Colorado to the Canadian border to Wisconsin and back to Colorado I did not have to worry much. I think we should send a test car up and see how it really is. :violin:

Memory lane, remember one of the Carlsbad runs when Marwane got a ticket for revving on someone, and those pipes that PModdy had that you could hear as he came up from behind. Those WERE some fun years. :-D

I remember the swarm of bees that attacked at Carlsbad. As I recall, I followed you to safety. And, yes, those were fun times which I shall always remember fondly. I expect that such times are gone forever so I am glad that I at least got in on the last of them.

Still, long distance touring in a prototype Spartan little sports car is still insane no matter what some might try to say. Almost as bad as riding hundreds of miles on a bicycle and calling it fun.

I loved them trying to line us up against each other so we wouldn't stomp the Chevys all of the time. And the Wheel/tire swapping when we were all experimenting.
The Terminator appeared at the perfect time for me. I was killing myself at work, needed a distraction, had a little money in my bank account for the first time in many years -- Adam was a the right age for some father/son bonding with cars, Terri loved it and never asked what all those trips to the dyno were about.
Without Piggie I would have had to hang out with those sweaty bicyclists... :(

Sounds like a fun summer cruise!

Definitely miss our old crazy days of racing and invasions. I, like many of us, spent way too much on my Cobra, but it was worth it!

What is neat about the cruise plan is that Terri (after driving the SPF around in Nebraska) is volunteering for driving if I need a break. There is still a question about us being allowed across the Canadian border with the open pipes.

I must be healing... thinking too much about modding. :-D
