Power Door Lock Issue

Post by SonicVenum »

For any of you electrical experts out there, here is my issue:

Both door lock switches work to lock/unlock passenger door. Neither switch works to lock/unlock the driver's door. The key still works. My strong suspicion is a bad door lock actuator on the driver's side. Does this sound right? I know several of you have had Fox bodies, so maybe one of you may have dealt with this issue?

Yeah, sounds like just a lazy / dead driver side door solenoid that pushes / pulls the door lock. More trouble to take the door panel off to get to it, than anything. I always end up pulling the door liner to pieces and destroy most of those mushroom push pins they use in the process. Then again, I'm not exactly patient or gentle when it comes to that sort of thing.

Yeah, I know it's a pain in the ass. It's not an absolute necessity, but I'd like to install a basic alarm with keyless entry. No point in doing that if the driver's door doesn't unlock with the key. I have a full set of interior trim removal tools that are designed to make that stuff easier to deal with. They've worked for me on other vehicles. I don't remember if I've ever had to take off the door panels in the Notch.

I had this problem with my 1989. Same symptoms.

Door locks would also freeze in the winter but only on the driver side.
