I know this spot well. Used to hang out there weekly. Looked like a TT Coyote.

I knew people who went there to watch, and those who went there to race. I never got within a mile of the place because I didn't want the L.E scrutiny
The closest I got was the parking lot at Flames

I used to go hang out almost weekly for a period of time. We hung out at Sizzler then cruised over.
Only once did I pull my car out of the lot to line up. After the burnout, 1 LAPD cruiser came straight at us from the West. That was the end of my time there.

Funny, Linda Beck came out of hiding to make the tenth or so post in the comments on this video.

I saw that Linda commented, as well, and, I also saw that she alleged running LACR every Weds and Fri. But, some of us know the only D. Park actually can say that! Also, when I saw the comment about LACR, I remembered that the street racers never ran LACR even when it was still open since they generally could not pass tech, or, they had been thrown out of LACR, or they did not wish to run where people could see their times. Street racers are not the same crew as track racers for whom Famoso is still open as well as the strange Willow Springs drags.Brakelate wrote:Funny, Linda Beck came out of hiding to make the tenth or so post in the comments on this video.
Bad PR, as usual, but, spectators have been killed while watching both street racing and at tracks, in the past. There are always risks, even for non participants. Still, that Mustang sure made a hard turn. It almost looked as if an axle broke, since it is hard to get that out of shape, that quickly within such a short distance from the start. But, I can say that the solid axle late model 5.0's can step out very sideways pretty radically on, say, a hard shift from 1->2. At least, I have heard that people have got sideways and somehow recovered. So, a person could get bitten if they were less than adroit at handling such an event. Here, practice in an old Fox body Mustang would also have helped as they too were easy to spin.
Not that I'd know.

Wow, that's a blast from the past. If I remember correctly, she disappeared right after the 2008 presidential election. Thanks, Obama!
I agree with Pat on both Dave being the most prolific LACR racer we know (and possibly ever), and with street racers not frequenting LACR when it was open. Those guys are all about the betting they do during the races. I'm also guessing a lot of them live closer to Irwindale, and would go there with "NO TIME" on their window to shake out their setups. I remember running into a few folks in that crowd on my visits to the 'Dale.

Yep, that juiced up the memory banks. Sorry to see it. Actually I still read the LA Times every morning and it was given a lot of play today. (today? time just streams by down here)

Sure is a lot of tire squeezed in under the rear of that Stang. Bias Plys. Should have stuck with radials, even if a little smaller.
