Yeah, they're beautiful, if you don't need a practical car, love to visit your mechanic very, very regularly and have lots of money and a second car for back-up. They are only to be used for the occaisional "pleasure drive". 10 years in a BMW/Audi/M-B/Volvo dlr svc dept qualifies my answer...

Take that 'BMW/Audi/M-B/Volvo' Mechanic's comments with a heaping dose of salt.

What does he expect? People only bring their cars to him WHEN THEY HAVE PROBLEMS, so he only sees the problem cars. What does he think, that people will bring their problem-free M6s in to him to tell him they don't have any problems, and just thought he'd like to know?

They are very good cars. The S38 engine is very reliable. We don't see the older M6 in the shop hardly(. The only bad thing about it, is when those breakdown is going to be hard to find a BMW mechanic that has lot of experience working on them.

I wouldnt suggest getting the M6. Depends on what you like. The m6 is very fast saloon car. Its huge, same with the M5. The M5 is slightly smaller. But the M3 is very nice with speed and power.

Are you referring to the late 80's version or the currently available M6 ? I love the look of the older M6's , very sexy !
