Yep, I made it out to Carlsbad a bunch of times before they closed it down, I remember cruising down with some Cobras and even P Machy when he had his obnoxious exhaust! Never made it to LACR though!

Are there the usual mods to increase boost and tunes available for the turbo Mustang? I have no clues about it other than the fact that it is lighter than the 5.0 versions and it can be ordered with some kind of handling option. It would be interesting to hear a report about how it works.

We still drag race at Willow Springs now and then, even if it really isn't a real drag strip. Not too hard on the machinery as they do no prep on the racing surface so it is basically the same as starting off hard on the street.

Lot's of mods available for the ecoboost and new tuners are popping up daily. Some are pushing 400hp and 400lbs of torque with a tune and simple bolt-ons. I believe I read that an ecoboost with exhaust, intake, downpipe, and a tune ran the 1/4 in mid 12.5. I wish I could comment on the true performance of the car but with only 500 miles on the odometer I'm still breaking it in, nothing past 3K rpm for me for at least 500 more miles

I have the performance pack that comes with some of those "better handling" goodies so I did enjoy a nice cruise through the Malibu canyons last week. The car performed extremely well without having to be pushed hard and, believe it or not, averaged a cool 28 mpg doing so!

Does your car have an auto or a manual trans? I hope that you come back and post a report about the new car after you break it in as It would be interesting to hear how it works and if it is quick in the real world. I already heard rumors that it handles well and has good road manners, but, if you cane it, I bet its mileage will drop significantly since HP loves fuel.

I also guess that I better be careful if I run into one of the modified eco boost cars on the street if they can make 400/400!

Rocking the auto with the paddle shifters over here, I feel like letting the car shift for me now a days! I'll definitely keep you posted on how the car feels once I break the 1,000 mile marker.

Yep, Bryan! Always had a great time with you guys!

How long did you keep the BMW? As I remember, it was a nice toy.

I kept it for the life of the lease, 3 years. I really enjoyed that car! The inline 6 with the twin turbos really opened my eyes to the fact that not all turbo cars have turbo lag  If it wasn't for that car I might have never considered the ecoboost!

I decided to turn it in instead of keeping it because of the future cost of the maintenance, at that age it was simply money I didn't have to spend on maintaining the car. It provided lots of fun through the canyons though and got some of the best gas mileage I've ever had on road trips!

Are the paddle shifters responsive? The auto trans in my 5.0 is practically useless when it comes to manual shifting, even though I have selections for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gears. To get the car to upshift at 7000 RPM 1->2, I have to shift when the tach says exactly 6450 RPM, and this is not easy at all with the short first gear that the auto has. Miss it and it hits the rev limiter. To make the 2->3 shift at 7000 RPM, I have to manually shift at 6600 RPM. Due to the tall gearing of the auto, I finished the 1/4 at Famoso at just about 7000 RPM in 3rd, so no further shifts were necessary. But, I have never been able to manually shift with accuracy. The car also hesitates on downshifts to 3rd and 2nd, and it will not go into 1st until it gets down to about 25 mph when it violently finally selects 1st and upsets the chassis. At the streets of Willow, I only used 2nd and 3rd gears since I could not get back into 1st for a couple of the slowest corners. And the tall gearing was not suited to the Streets.

It is the auto trans that has me looking at new 2015 GT's with manual transmissions, but, they are in scarce supply at dealerships and they also have become pricy. A premium trim GT with standard seats and trim and only the GT Performance Package added runs over $39000, MSRP, but, dealers always add the backup camera deal, and the Nav option, and this pushes the MSRP over $40000. And the Premium GT is portly so even with it supposed 435 HP on 93 coatane fuel (how much HP does it lose since 93 octane is not available in California?), that road tests show it a 10th or 2 slower, and with 1 mph less trap speed, than the previous 5.0. So, lots of money and a slower car?

In case you never saw it, here is PMachy with a dead stock down to the paper air filter 2012 manual trans 5.0 at Famoso running me with the auto slug. I was on MT DR's that day.

Well let's be honest...If I were to say they were responsive for drag racing I'd be lying to you. They're responsive enough for canyon running and daily driving but when it comes to racing I'd just leave it in Sport mode and let the transmission do the work for me. I will say that although the car claims it will run on 87 octane I'd never put it in the car considering, as you said, the car was tested and numbers documented on 93 octane and we can really only get 91 reliably.

Love that video btw, makes me miss running the 1/4!
