Reading up on it and hearing the brief sounds of it running made me feel sad. But then I remembered that I had been riding motorcycles for 50 years and I could still go out and get a bike that would stomp the GT350's ass, along with mostly everything else out there. And, I could afford the motorcycle.

Still, I did feel some cravings when they revealed the GT350. It also reminded me of just what a tremendous bargain my Cobra had been, although I personally faded the brakes completely on the Cobra more than once. Of course, I also completely faded the brakes on my Busa, but, I was rolling with Brakelate at the time, and, if I don't say so myself, that run remains the quickest that I have ever covered twisty roads in my life. But, come to think of it, I was also rolling with Brakelate when I faded the Cobra's brakes out! Damn, I miss that old boy as he really knew how to tour.

To quote an old sage, "Ride with Brakelate, die in the alley". Imagine if you and he both had these new GT350's :o

looks good, sounds good. There is something strange about the stripes. Too little white between the two blues??? Today and tomorrow are packed to the gills for me so I will have to jump in and read from time to time.

Thanks for staying on top of this stuff, Ron.

It was a wonder that we got away with what we did, in terms of spirited driving and riding. But, we did it at what I feel was the twilight of the era when one could go out into desolated areas and run hard. Now, the CHP has long distance devices to check speed with and they are doing max enforcement in some of the popular haunts with the express purpose of coming down hard on everyone that fits their profile of a mug. The double yellow painters have hit almost all the good roads, so, one has to risk a very expensive ticket if one wants to move at an interesting pace since there inevitably are some righteous idiots running well below the posted limit who never, ever, under any circumstance, yield to faster traffic. LACR went about the same time and was another indicator of the changing social climate. And, now, there are plans in the works to really clamp down on underground smog checks.

It is ironic that Detroit is rolling out some of the most potent machinery that they have ever released, considering the way that "decent civilization" is snuffing out spirited street motoring, and considering the costs of fuel and tires and insurance and tags and all that. But, I guess that there are sufficient people of means out there that Detroit sees an opportunity to provide them with toys, and, there is also the halo effect for the common man who will have to settle for the base models, if they can even afford that.

So, as I said, I like the GT350, but it is an upscale vehicle and not for common folk, such as I am. I am just glad that I had the '03 Cobra when I did and that I also had a Busa and that I drag raced them both until their tongues were hanging out and I was nearly flat broke. If I had waited, and not too long, that final window to do what I did, would have been slammed shut, as it sort of is now, although Famoso remains. But, Famoso has a very limited schedule for shots at personal bests with anticipated super DA and great track prep.

I also will note that those that enjoy track days are still in great shape as there are many track days still offered. However, track days are somewhat beyond the means of the common man, and certainly too expensive for me, so, the track day folks may well be the same people who can afford the new GT350. And, it might make a pretty good track car with the IRS and the optional coolers and the huge brakes and 500+ HP. It will be interesting to see how it does when it hits the streets. Maybe Carlos will have to kick his HP up from 1000 to 1200 to handle the new breeds of Detroit iron that are heading his way?

With the dealer markup and all, and with units packed with options, we are talking $80K for a Mustang. Of course, they have history on their side as the 667 HP Shelby can get really expensive and they sold those, but, a common man's car the new GT350 will not be. And, of course, Chevy is still churning out some serious track day iron in that same price range. Those who purchased '03 Terminators for the list price of $34750 got the deal of a lifetime, for sure (stops typing and starts to sob uncontrollably over the loss of his Terminator).

The exile of Brakelate to who knows where (does Page really exist or is it a plot by space aliens?) is a loss to California
