Other sources for 2.3 Whipple?

I spent a bit of time on the Stiegmeier site and found myself being convinced by the Whipple write-up that the SPF will just be a better toy with the Whipple rather than a worked-over Eaton. Even tho I polished the Eaton I think I will leave the Whipple black and black out more of the under-hood stuff... Probably run a gentle 17 lbs.

(thanks for the motivation, Ron ha ha)

To run 17 lbs of boost you need a reliable octane number. And why 17 lbs of boost? Are you gunning for 550 to 600 WHP? You will be pushing the boundaries of safety and reliability

With the advantages of the Whipple in terms of reduced lost HP needed to drive the S/C, I would go 15 lbs. Remember, you're likely to gain 50-75 HP at equal boost versus the Eaton by switching to a Whipple

I appreciate the 2 cents. I am going to be driving with some guys with massive ci's (high 4, low 500) and really big hp, and good octane has been available in other parts of the country where they drive. Most carry a little octane boost around just in case and so will I. I have some informal bets that the blown modular will be a much better driver and as quick, or quicker, as their heavily cammed giant engines. So I might run a little more boost during the show and tell phase than I run later. It will not be a California car unless I am just driving thru. This engine was built for the twin turbos, designed for massive boost, but I don't plan on more than 17-19 .... what the hell, I won't pretend that I am really planning.

The car will get 2000-3000 miles a year unless something changes in my life, and if something really bad happens to the engine, I'll stick a blown Coyote in it. Or whatever has replaced the Coyote and is better. I do really like the current Ford performance engines.
I am hoping that after this mod, I can just beat on it for a couple of years with no further investment, other than travel to and from wherever it is living at the time, but my goal is a really good feeling when driving it, and that bar might move from time to time.

I am going to open up another thread for clarity. It will be VMP 2.3L TVS Supercharger. After a bunch of reading and research, I plan to order the VMP TVS tomorrow. It solves some installation issues in the SPF, and will not cost power. 3 days ago I did not know it existed.

I went over to the dark side (svtperformance) to do some research. I found several impressive threads on various topics. Saw no signs of the douchebags that caused us to leave many years ago. I'd guess that they are still around, but maybe someone told them to cool it. The forum is massive. Nice visit, just don't want to live there...
