Why are Fords so slow?

Post by Chad-1stgen »

As the home of many diehard Ford fans I had to come here to ask this question after attending the Shelby Club event at Laguna Seca last week...

The Shelby Cobras ARE slow. They quit showing up at the Run and Guns after being wiped so badly... 8-)

Well it wasn't just the Cobras...

I've been good and the car has been great. I'm headed back out to the track this Saturday at Buttonwillow.

Was it the cars or the drivers? We any of the cars prepped like yours?

It was mainly the drivers. Some of the cars in my run group were prepped far more than my own car in terms of being closer to a race car. Lightened, full cage, race seats, harnesses and racing slicks. Some had less prep or kept to vintage specs. I was very surprised how many had racing slicks there that I was out cornering because there is a huge huge difference between my 200TW street tires and a racing slick. Without a roll bar and 5 point harness I was limited to running in the intermediate run group. There were some cars in the more advanced groups that would of blown me away. A couple of the the folks there had the latest ACR Vipers and were running lap times of almost 10 seconds faster than me.

"It was mainly the drivers." So the title of this thread should have been "Why do Ford lovers suck?"

I know a couple of good drivers who are Ford-lovers (like I am) who might have a car in the area, but am not sure that they have a car equal to yours. :-D Your car is described somewhere right? Give me the link and I will see who has something comparable. The guys I know who track a lot are East Coast based, but there are some folks out West. Could be fun :-D

I'd love to meet some other regular track drivers and I personally don't care what they drive. Some friendly lap time comparisons are also welcome. Even better if they are faster than me because then I might learn something!

In the mean time your question about my car is timely. Just this morning an online article featuring it was published on apexjunky.com http://www.apexjunky.com/featured/garag ... one-right/

That has the most condensed description of the mods rather than my bloated build threads on various forums.
