Ed Zachary By the way, I am going to start a GoPro noob thread. Just to get feedback on some of the stuff that you guys have already dealt with.

It would be nice to see some videos from south of the border. I make all my videos using MS Live!MovieMaker, but you have to be running W7 or better to process the GoPro .mp4 files and HD stuff. MovieMaker is free and relatively simple to use although it has limited capabilities. But it does all the basics. And, of course, the more powerful your computer the better as far as speed goes.

Yes, I have been filming and have a bunch of stuff saved. Day by day, but since the solar is doing its job (9-15 cents a day electricity cost now) and the water capture is in place, I can reward myself with some play time.

Nice savings on electricity, depending on how much it was costing before solar? If getting a good solar array were free, I love it, since my electricity in the summer can be $500 a month, and, I am not joking. It would be even more, but, I make some efforts to conserve. It is the a/c that runs up the bills and it is absolutely necessary to use the a/c as it is forecast to hit 108* this weekend. Solar would be ideal in such an environment as the sun really beats down in the summer when the added juice would come in handy. But, solar is complicated and not free, and, at my age, I might never recover the initial outlay. So, I pay Edison their premium laden bills (tier three abuser of power charges) for four months each year. It all averages out but water costs have tripled since I first moved in, and house insurance has doubled, even though the value of the place is less than I paid for it, and all the other utilities have steeply gone up in costs as well. But, a person can only conserve so much and still have any quality of life left. All this would be less of a bother if my income had kept pace with gasoline prices and utilities, but, during the same time, returns on investments and savings as well as on most income streams declined severely.

But, I am ranting again. Please excuse me, I get carried away about the costs of running a house sometimes. I shall go and reuse yesterdays coffee grounds and make some "fresh" coffee for today and see if there are any bread crumbs or scraps that I overlooked, and, perhaps I will feel better about things. I could have had more real food, but, I had to make a choice, and, a bottle of Tanquerey won out. But, that Tanquerey may well save the day later, since I am downloading the .iso of Win 8.1 Preview, which I will load onto a USB stick and try, later. And, if my experiences with Win 8 were of any indication, Win 8.1 will annoy me sufficiently enough that medication in the form of gin will be required.

Quote from LA Times about the pending hot weather:

The strong upper-level ridge of high pressure that is building over the Southland could last into next week, the weather service said. Heat will be particularly intense in the inland valleys and could reach 115-120 degrees in desert communities.

Before, we were consuming 65-75 pesos a day of electricity. Of course solar production varies depending on the weather conditions, and usage varies depending on whether Lupita's chores for the day involve electricity usage or not. :-D The payback period has dropped from "never" to "in my lifetime". I am pleased.

Yeah, jeeze. Someone call the Admin!

Glad to see Screwtape here. Looks like he's got a (SERIOUS) new race bike!

Yeah, it was 117 in Baker tonight about 5pm. I was thinking I could sneak in one more ride this coming Sunday, maybe even hit GMR again for the first time in like 22 years. But, the temps are set to be outrageous this weekend.
