NSA's PRISM

Post by xbacksideslider »

After an FBI agent signed a false affidavit in support of an application for a warrant to obtain Fox' James Rosen's phone and email records, and an Assistant US Attorney filed, and THE US Attorney Holder blessed that filing, how can anyone say "this PRISM program is OK, after all, they have to get a warrant . . . . .

That FBI agent should be indicted for perjury and then squeezed to testify about the whole process - especially who told him to lie, how they went judge shopping until the got the warrant they wanted, how it was supposed to expire in 18 months but was still in effect 3 years later . . . .

When someone who works for the government testifies "we don't do that . . . ." you have to ask yourself,
"Yeah, what about Google and Microsoft and the rest who DO do it and have no choice but to do what the government demands?"

As we all know, NSA's Fortezza hardware-based encryption cards, created for the Clipper project, are still used within government, and NSA ultimately published the design of the SKIPJACK cipher (but not the key exchange protocol) used on the cards.

The widely used SHA-1 and SHA-2 hash functions were designed by NSA. SHA-1 is a slight modification of the weaker SHA-0 algorithm, also designed by NSA in 1993. This small modification was suggested by NSA two years later, with no justification other than the fact that it provides additional security. An attack for SHA-0 that does not apply to the revised algorithm was indeed found between 1998 and 2005 by academic cryptographers. Because of weaknesses and key length restrictions in SHA-1, NIST deprecates its use for digital signatures, and approves only the newer SHA-2 algorithms for such applications from 2013 on.

A new hash standard, SHA-3, has recently been selected through the competition concluded October 2, 2012 with the selection of Keccak as the algorithm.

Keccak and it's variants are what you need to be concerned with. 8-)

Who knew Rob Halford of Judas Priest was a prophet? I give you the lyrics for the song Electric Eye

Up here in space
I'm looking down on you.
My lasers trace
Everything you do.
You think you've private lives
Think nothing of the kind.
There is no true escape
I'm watching all the time.
I'm made of metal
My circuits gleam.
I am perpetual
I keep the country clean.
I'm elected electric spy
I'm protected electric eye.
Always in focus
You can't feel my stare.
I zoom into you
You don't know I'm there.
I take a pride in probing all your secret moves
My tearless retina takes pictures that can prove.
I'm made of metal
My circuits gleam.
I am perpetual
I keep the country clean.
I'm elected electric spy
I'm protected electric eye.
Electric eye, in the sky
Feel my stare, always there
There's nothing you can do about it.
Develop and expose
I feed upon your every thought
And so my power grows.
I'm made of metal
My circuits gleam.
I am perpetual
I keep the country clean.
I'm elected electric spy
I'm protected electric eye.
I'm elected electric spy
I'm elected. Protected. Detective. Electric eye.

It is not just "meta data" it is everything. If you have doubts about this article's claims about extent of surveillance, then click on the links.

Ever hear of the "100 mile Constitution Free Zone?" Seems that the 4th Amendment may not apply if you are within 100 miles of the border, or in or around an international airport.
