Re: Terri and I head to Japan for a 26 day visit
Thursday. A long week... Rose is 11 weeks old. Well-developed lungs Theo is a fun maniac. Adam and Melinda are as advertised.
We are doing a lot of 'touring' driving. Okinawa is a blend of great stuff and caca.
It is covered with USA military bases. Decent infrastructure.
The cars are miniature. Adam is driving a Cube. but drifting a 2 liter Toyota Altezza.
We went to the former WWII Japanese Underground Headquarters. They had some stats that were staggering. They count 200,000+ killed in the battle for Okinawa (12,500 Americans.) The Japanese would NOT give up until crushed. Their defense led to us deciding NOT to invade Japan. All this was going on when I was between 1 and 2 years old...
We took Theo to a aquatic park yesterday -- maybe the best kept fish I've seen --- they had very large whale sharks and manta rays in gigantic tanks with 2 foot thick large viewing windows. Tons of interesting stuff. Yep, the typical grandmaw and grandpaw Kettle stuff.
1 more week here before we head to Kyoto, Kobee, Osaka and Tokyo for a while in each place before heading back to LA to handle the Ski Nautique before returning home
to mexico…

Terri has arranged for us to visit several motorcycle museums, in light of how much we enjoyed the Ducati and Ferrari museums in Italy trip back in 2007.
She has scheduled visits at the Kawasaki, Suzuki and Yammerhammer museums. I'm not sure there is anything I care to see at the Kawasaki museum. Never owned one.
But I've never seen an H2H in person...

Yesterday was 'Hacksaw Ridge' day here. We went to the park where it 'is' and spent a couple of hours soaking up the terrain/vibes. It is pretty but somber. It is hard to not think of the lives lost.

Then last night we watched the 21016 Mel Gibson-directed movie. I did not know the Desmond Doss story. It's complicated, but worth knowing. Research says it the movie facts are pretty accurate.
War is hell. Probably was a good thing that I was 4F with my spinal issue. I'd be dead...

We have 4 days left before flying to Osaka. This has been a good visit with Adam and family. Okinawa is scenic.

What's amazing about that guy is that the movie actually condenses what he did. He did WAY more heroic stuff during the war than they could put in the film. He was a true hero.jhwalker wrote: ↑Wed Mar 06, 2019 3:45 amYesterday was 'Hacksaw Ridge' day here. We went to the park where it 'is' and spent a couple of hours soaking up the terrain/vibes. Yes, I read that they felt the audience would not be able to believe everything.
We are in Okinawa countdown. We leave Sunday. We have driven to the Northern tip where the China Sea meets the Pacific and roamed around the city. The North is mostly jungle. Adam participated in a gymkana with his 'toy car'. I overcooked on exercise (as usual) and had a 'can't walk' day , picked up a couple of tools at Adam's favorite tool shop.
Life is good. Finally got reprimanded for being too stern with grandson
I will behave...

sayonara Okinawa
herro Osaka
Much different. Much infrastructure. Nice hotel...
Terri's taking pics - I may share Just here for a day, then 4+ days in Osaka.
The trip which felt 'too long', now seems too short.

Duh, we are in Kyoto for 4-5 days. not Osaka
Kyoto -- I had seen mo hot chicks here in the 1st hour than in Okinawa in 2 weeks. Terri is so happy for me.
I will report back in a while.
