2018 -- life in Mexico

Post by jhwalker »

We returned to try to get the house repaired, talk with the staff, plan and install additional security devices, blah blah.

We are trying to regain that 'peaceful, easy feeling' that we have had most of the time we have lived here. We've moved back to 'condition orange/red' regarding safety.
Will replace Precious and Pecas with two more dogs. They are probably sacrificial warning devices, that will lead great lives until they are killed -- it is too easy to take out a dog, out here in the country, sadly.
We have moved beyond the 'let's get the hell out of here' discussion that was our tone last week. We truly enjoy it here, and do enjoy the wild west elements of living here -- but it IS the wild West. We will live (or die) with our decisions.

Here's to a great 2018.

I'm still pounding the stroke recovery routine. I might have mentioned that my 1962 Spinal fusion has dissolved. The doctors say that there is little/no experience with how spinal fusions hold after 55+ years, makes sense. So now I am a data point  I am working on my own exercise program for that. I can get around, just need to keep a stiff upper lip, and not be a crybaby. Still working on getting back on the Ducati - safely. It will be a busy, focused year.
Life is still good, just a bit more challenging. :auto-biker:

Yup  I am catching so much shit from the boys about this latest bs, I finally had to say STFU! They have been trying to get us to return for 5 years.

This has been a tough week. The police have told to stay on guard.
We have decided to harden the house/property more, with special emphasis on protection of the staff. More electronic fencing blah blah too tored to talk about it tonight.
need to buck up  meow

Oh wow, sorry to hear that. Does anybody know what could have prompted this? Has there been a change in local politics? Were any other houses hit?

Hate to say it but it could be that there's a play for your new house . . . . . . but then I'm a cynic when it comes to government generally.

I fear it is more simple. It turns out that about 3 miles to the South is a little town that has a bad reputation (cartel folks keep getting discovered buried in back yards...).
There are no fences so they wander, like pirates, in search of plunder. Ours is the first house they see. The house tells a false story.
By the way, I am sloshed. Terri and I have had a much-too-long celebration over her retirement.

In any case, I'm beefing up security. We like it here. No shit-bags are running me off my land. We are planning a trip to the armory in DF to pick up a couple of 12-gauges to back up the Winchester 30-30. and the 3 38's. It's war I tells ya.

Yeah, I'd be the same.
Security cameras? Motion sensors? all that stuff is cheap now.
I'd get dogs too, one small, quick and smart, another big that takes cues from the other.
