Life in Mexico -- March 2018 Not good

Post by jhwalker »

All hell has broken loose down here.

The local petty criminals didn't read the memo that said 'steal but don't be an asshole about it...

And two cartels are fighting it out for control of Queretaro. 9 were shot at the new, big mall in Queretaro. 3 dead. :naughty:
One cartel put up their 'this land is my land, not your land' banners, and the other cartel went over to pull them down -- oops!

Things are a little crazy right now. If this crap had been going on in 2008, we would not have bought/built.
The trend is bad, and a lot of other stuff is going on. Vans to the airport are being held up. Some ass-wipes stopped a car and after stealing EVERYTHING but the clothes and shoes, dropped the driver and passenger off in the desert for a nice walk back to the road.
Terri flies up tomorrow to take care of some stuff, will take a private car with an armed driver -- for about 5X our usual van cost. crappo...
No good bitching about it. The really bad stuff encourages the small-time thugs.

Our 'spensive security project will come on line next week. It will let us know to 'assume battle positions'

Off to rehab

Is moving back state-side completely out of the question? I'm sure it'll have some financial ramifications, but peace of mind has to be worth a lot.

We talk. We will be in the US from mid-April thru early May, and then 2-3 weeks in June, and maybe cruise the SPF Cobra around for a month later this year.

We have some stuff going on right now that is good that will likely double the value here (property and casa), and if it happens and we still are uneasy we may move back to the USA. Right now, not sure where we would move to in the US. most places don't look so great. We like Austin
The 'problem' is that we really ENJOY/LIKE our life here, even with the BS.

Sad state of affairs when nowhere in US is attractive; even Austin?

I was being a wise-ass. Now that they caught that bomber, Austin can go back on the list.

Since no one is posting I will bore you with stroke rehab trivia.

My new gym workout involves warming up on a treadmill and then doing 2-3 minutes on an elliptical stepper (all the bad leg will take...) and then doing a circuit of machines that results in pushing/pulling/lifting approx. 32,000 lbs. This caca takes about an hour, and I can only do it 2x a week without being too exhausted.
This is in addition to the 7 days a week 15-20 minutes of 'core work' on the floor and daily 3+ minutes of bouncing on the Bellicon, stabilizing myself with 2 in.wide Rogue bands hanging from the chin bar (my balance is not so good) :-D
then, 3 times a week 20-30 minutes on the stationary bike, raising the resistance level each minute for the 1st half, lowering each minute for the last half. and wrapping up with 2-3 minutes hanging like a bat on the inversion device.

I feel pretty good, strangely enough. Thank goodness I enjoy doing mindless stuff.

Gonna start swimming again, and gonna start playing golf again. I forgot that I simulate "swinging" a round of golf in the garage 3-4 times a week (driver, 3 wood, short iron X 18...) just so those motions will not hurt when I play.

The alternative seems to be to assume the fetal position and suck my thumb...

Most people who are in rehab are not that diligent. Good for you.
