One year ago I was in intensive care in Aranda de la Para in Leon, Guanajuato, Mx. I was evaluated as 'likely to live', so was being given serious treatment. It worked, so here I am. Some good came from the problem. Terri and I are closer. After 38-39 years together, an element of 'ho hum' creeps in. No more. Every day is an adventure. My three boys don't take 'dear old dad' quite as much for granted.
1 year later --
left wrist is shot -- simply not usable. I may try surgery. Not sure.
left arm is worthless - ditto
left leg is pretty worthless, but I can walk. (like a dork)
Some days I can speak clearly, some days not.
Have a lot of 'who knows why' pain. Not 'I wish to die' pain, just hurting a lot. meow
I read more.
Have not ridden a motorcycle for more than 1 year. It is just not practical yet. Really miss it.
I continue to average 2-3 hours a day of rehab. (boring...)
My writing has barely improved. it is horrible.
life is good.

I did not get into the frustration, some depression, agitation -- a generally F'd up feeling. A sense of being watched. I think this stuff will pass, and if not I can deal with it.

This is a little grim, but gives a sense for why I remain a little paranoid.

We (the doctors and I ) still don't understand WHY I stroked out, which leaves me to conclude that I am toast. The second biggie is worse.
I'm done for a while...

Congratulations on your progress, James! I have a family member that had a stroke at about the same age you did, but about 15 years ago, and she has never come anywhere near the functionality you have a achieved. I know your personality makes you want to be further along than you are, but you're doing great. Here's to a great 2017!

It is funny, the folks who have had a fairly severe (or more) stroke pretty much recognize each other. The claw hand, chicken wing, the dragging leg, the caughing/choking -- there are a bunch down here in San Miguel. Poor bastards... I friggin fell again in town last week. "Pride goeth before a fall', eh? Avoiding hurting the left wrist more, I hurt the RIGHT wrist. A hole in the street was covered with a piece of (cracked) wood which broke when I stepped on it. Timber, splat! Little kids got to learn new words...
