This morning I read a reasonably long article in the LA Times discussing the timetable and challenges of the bullet train project. I think that if anyone involved had to put his/her own money into this project, it would not advance thru another meeting.
Are any of you following the discussion?

I avoid the commie times of L.A. I also try to avoid the city of L.A. as much as possible. That bullet train has so many issues it's not funny. Violating the 5th amendment rights of the property owners (Takings) is only one of them. It's a train to nowhere anybody would want to go. Private money would look at the ROI and declare it a nonstarter

When the project estimates recently ballooned to $98 billion, the scope was reduced by removing routes that MIGHT be used by riders to bring the estimate down to high $60s billion.
It is an abortion of a project in every way. The voter-approved project way back when for $33 billion is no where in sight in the current project.

Throughout our history, great fortunes were, and are, made by following the routes of subsidized transportation - be it by pike, canal, rail, or highway.
As they say "follow the money."
If you want to know who is behind this boondoggle, just follow the trail of recorded land transfers and options.
All you need is inside information about exactly where the line will be built.
Buy the information, then buy an option on water starved agricultural acreage, then wait for the process to play out, hope you can exercise your option, and sell that acreage by the lot.
Meanwhile the CA Water Board coerces water rights out of the hands of their owners for turnover to favored developers.
Government - picking winners and losers.
