Re: Movies you have seen recently...
I saw it on Saturday. I liked it. All the acting was great, and the story was good. I still think Interstellar was much better, but they are very different films with space and NASA being the only common links. Something I learned from taking my 11 year old nephew, don't take kids to this unless they are seriously into science and/or space. He snored through the third act, and the climax of the film. Good thing we saw a matinee, so it was only $7 down the drain.

We also saw Black Mass, and Inside Out. Black Mass is a realistic portrayal that tells the story of a real-life Boston gangster that was fictionalized by Scorcese in The Departed. Black Mass was good, but not nearly as entertaining as The Departed. Though the true story is interesting, the freedom of fiction gave Scorcese a bigger canvas to work with.
Inside Out was good. It's animated, which makes you think kids movie, but it's definitely adult friendly, and kids aren't likely to understand the intricacies. Lots of laughs, and some emotional parts. I'd recommend it.

Finally saw the revenant. Pretty much kept thinking "what a bitch to make. I usually don't like pretty boys playing hard-ass roles but just for making the movie (I hate cold...) Loenardo won me over.

I liked the film, but I feel it too much of the praise was simply because it was difficult to make. I'm glad it didn't win best picture because I don't think it deserved. I think Room deserved that, and I think Mad Max didn't even come close to deserving the nomination. I saw 6 of the 8 nominated films (missed Bridge of Spies & Brooklyn). Spotlight was interesting, but I nodded off for a bit in the middle.
As for Leo, I think he's given more complete performances, but he did great in this role, and I think this win was cumulative.
If you haven't seen Room, watch it.

I'll tell the boss about Room ... We enjoyed Spotlight but the Catholic priest shame has been a hot button for me for a long time. Movie downside -- we knew the endingSonicVenum wrote:I liked the film, but I feel it too much of the praise was simply because it was difficult to make. We enjoyed the Mad Max bs but "Mad Max: Fury Road received ten nominations at the 88th Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director for Miller, and Best Visual Effects. It went on to win the most awards at the ceremony, with six, including Best Film Editing, Best Production Design, and Best Costume Design."
seemed off the wall. To us. I'm getting old (in fact will soon be a year older than Tetge again...

Re: Movies you have seen recently...
I haven't gone to a movie in many years. In fact all the lousy movie channels that TWC gave me to get me to sign up have old movies that I never saw. So I have been catching up on ones that I think that I can handle, including a ton of really lousy movies. Now, after 6 months or so with TWC, I have pretty much seen everything and nothing has really impressed me. The computer driven stuff is really amazing, and one can not see any wires or animation at all, and HD is good and I have a big screen and decent 5.1 speakers. But, I guess I am not into movies even when they are well done. Or, maybe all the stories have been told?
But, that is not why I posted on this thread. It was that seriously elderly Walker's comment that mentioned me, a mere youth in comparison. I could not let that slide by.

The Ryder Cup was kind of a movie. Dramatic duals Mickleson & Garcia and McIlroy & Reed
