Roma

Post by jhwalker »

Surely ( :violin: Shirley?) Terri and I are not the only folks to see Roma. Did anyone else see it? Anyone see a 'best movie' contender?
We think that living here for so long may have caused bias...

Saw the trailer, but it didn't pull me in enough to want to watch it. We finally saw Crazy Rich Asians. That was good. Saw a little indie flick from last year, Elizabeth Harvest. That was good.

The frigging movie just got a 'Best Picture" at one of the never-ending award events. Go see it, por favor, and report back. 8-)

I'll try to remember it on a slow weekend, but I can't make any promises. The awards shows don't carry much weight for me. After Hans Zimmer didn't bring home the gold for his score for Interstellar, I lost all remaining respect for it.

Interstellar is probably my favorite movie of the last decade. It's awesome. Absolutely love that film.

When I became a parent, that scene where Coop asks his daughter (Murph) how she knew he'd come back....it gets me EVERY time. I've seen that film 20 times or more.

I am not yet a father, but even still, if you want to guarantee water works from me, show me a few crucial scenes from Interstellar.

James, you've got to watch it on BluRay on the biggest screen you can find with the best sound system (including subwoofer) you can find. Anything less would be a disservice. I first saw it on IMAX, and it was worth twice the price of admission. In other words, meh, it's pretty good.

So, was this an attempt at pulling a Punk'd prank on us? I feel I am owed 2 hours of my life back.

I don't get this type of film. It's an "art" film, right? It's supposed to look pretty, but not really have a point? Near the end, I was thinking it reminded me of There Will Be Blood. I kept waiting for something to happen, but it didn't. The long shot of the door near the beginning clued me into what awaited me, but I was hoping there would be more. This being nominated or winning awards is exactly why I don't put much weight in awards. Looking at the director's (Alfonso Cuaron) track record, I expected more from this. I didn't love Gravity, but it was much more watchable than this. I liked Children of Men and Y Tu Mama Tambien. This one was just way too art house for my taste.

James, what exactly did you and Terri enjoy about it? Or did you not enjoy it, and misery loves company?
