Re: WOW!
Just tracking... Sorry to hear about the back. I just went thru it all, and for me it all starts in 1960 -- but I am ok again, after surviving a couple of months of "life is NOT Bueno" time. Knock on wood.
Terri and I talked about me riding the Scrambler (which has/ not arrived yet) up to Socal for some fun. She doesn't care. So, maybe next year. This year is booked...

Isn't a Grom some midget, scooter like, thing? I suppose that they run them at kart tracks and everyone has a hoot and laughs it up?mikedbike2002 wrote:I will be coming into a few bucks soon & will either buy a Honda CRF150BW & convert to SM for track only or a Honda Grom ! That's it both bikes can run on the cart tracks but the Grom is also street legal. I've seen them on GMR/Azusa, ACH Malibu. There everywhere!

Re: WOW!
I read up on them last night and all the test riders said that they were a blast to play with. However, the max speed that one rider saw was 52 MPH after tucking in. And, since they are less than 150cc's they are not freeway legal in California, so you can't even hop on the freeway for a short distance. I also saw some that had been tweaked, at least they had exhaust mods, so I expect that they might get them up to 60 MPH with a light rider and mods. The other thing that was universally noted was that riders 6'2" could get reasonably comfortable on the wee bike and that the 12" tires gripped well.mikedbike2002 wrote:That's it both bikes can run on the cart tracks but the Grom is also street legal. Since the bike sells for a bit over $3000 new it is also not too expensive, and, I suppose that there will be cherry used ones around, although, as you noted, the bike has had very successful sales results. Still, less than 9 RWHP and 450 pounds with me on it means 50 pounds/HP and that is city bus territory, so you would barely be able to keep up with traffic on 35 mph posted streets and everything could out accelerate you. For street use, the fun might wear off quickly for an experienced motorcyclist. Down hill at GMR might be fun, but, you would still have to get to the top before heading down.

Re: WOW!
Even if it was freeway legal don't think I'd do that. There are tons on aftermarket stuff for the Grom. It is a single over head cam 2 valve 125cc mtr. BUT there is a 183cc kit that comes with a 4 valve head!! It is also injected. If I get one I'll build the mtr for max Hp! Would truck it to canyons. It could be a real blast on open practice track days & I can ride at Infineon in Sonoma with Lisa on her 150 Honda CRF.

Re: WOW!
Finding a used one is hard as they are in high demand hasn't been out long enough for used ones to come on the market. The few used ones I've seen for sale were poorly moded & too hi in price.

Re: WOW!
A 183 would be freeway legal as it is 150cc or more to get on the freeway. Of course, once the cop stopped laughing, you'd have to convince them that the bike was over 150cc's. But, with almost a 50% displacement increase and a better breathing head, the bike might be able to hit 65 for a short run up the freeway. 175 scooters go on the freeway.

Re: WOW!
The Grom's look like such fun. I just wonder how long before the fun wore off? I guess as long as you had buddies on the same bikes, dealing with the same handicaps (think of all our DRZ's on the Sunday Breakfast Rides) it wouldn't matter.
Out here in AZ, all the dealerships have them. In the original Red, Black and now in White as well. And they are sticking right around the $3k factory price.
Standing back and looking at them, if you squint, you would think they are "full" sized modern fun naked sporty bikes. With the big disc brakes, upside down forks and glossy black engine cases, they sure do like quality toys.

Re: WOW!
The way you ride, and carry your speed, you still might get a ticket on a Grom, but, I suppose that even kitted up it would tend to stay under 55. And, you might have to pick your spots to pass over the double yellow due to lack of acceleration. But, there might be some who would be very upset to be beat on Little T by an old guy on a Grom! I need to calibrate my newest GoPro 4 so that I can get a video of the Grom humiliating some sports bikes. That is, of course, if I could keep the Grom in sight.mikedbike2002 wrote:The mini road race groups are running Grom classes now! Just an all around play bike!! And a run to 7/11 once in a while!
Of course, this all hinges on you ever receiving that phantom money that you sometimes allude to. It is an extreme case of the money is in the mail but it seems that delaying justice as long as possible, is standard behavior toward the innocent victims of accidents.
