Hey Tetge - Are you going to your Brother's Melo Velo Ride?

Post by xbacksideslider »

Well?

October 10 and 11, Hwy 33, Serro Noestre nka Hudson valley Ranch, etcetera

And then, how about the following weekend at Lake Isabella? - the BSA OC Southern Sierra Ride? aka "Frank's ride?"

And, where's Brakelate?

I generally attempt to support my brother, although I do not have a leaky old English POS, and I loath camping.

As for Frank's ride? More camping and, is Frank even going to be there? I followed Frank a few time over the years and he used to ride like a crazy man. Sort of interesting if one had a death wish.

Tetge, let me know which day you are going and I will meet up. Maybe Brakelate will come

It is still a lot of dog days to the 10th. But, I will let you know. However, I must warn you that the road from where you live to The Place is a classical mountain route (including the bit from Santa Paula to Ojai and Dennison Grade), and, as I recollect, you have a vintage muscle car, and, we all know that those beasts don't handle at all.

Tetge - If you got up early, like 7:00, you could ride out there for breakfast Sunday AM.

That suggestion is like a double negative. First, the getting up early part. And then the breakfast part on Sunday, and the ride home after breakfast. I tried this a few years ago, accompanied by Brakelate, who specialized in setting up rides that were murderous, and realized that it is more riding than I am comfortable with as it is 110 miles each way from where I live.

I also never eat breakfast, as it is generally consumed at some ungodly, uncivilized, hour, and, as I recall breakfast is all done fairly early in the day and the ride commences. So, I'd have to roll out even earlier than 7 am to get there in time. And, at this time of year, believe it or not, it has been known to get too cold for comfort before the sun arise. No excuses really other than 200+ mile rides are not my thing anymore. And, I should also note that they are not what the Duke was designed to do as most of the route is posted at 55 mph or less and one could almost ride the entire route at 55 without lifting. Which, of course, I would do, since I never, ever, speed.

I find that if one treats it as a corner to corner drag race, one can still make good time while slowing to a speed at which my old, outdated and obsolete technology can achieve in a turn

Well, of course, since you have such a slow drag racing car, I guess that would work since you wouldn't get going that fast. I mean, doesn't some stock auto trans weak little GT own your car at Willow? But, in truth, with the CHP paying more attention to the roads that you must travel, a nice civilized and sane pace is the best way to go. And, if some Volvo or Smart Car catches up to you, you can just pull over to the right and wave them by. When you drive a relic, you have to adjust.

My brother is allegedly going to show at my house tomorrow and take the Suzuki DR-Z SM away, as he has purchased it from me since he is regretfully selling his Guzzi due to its large size which makes it hard to handle for a guy with a shot knee who is not getting any younger, and he wants an electric start reliable bike to ride around when he is not up to putting a relic into service. However, he will bring something English to his event, I am sure, although it may be his Triumph Daytona, since that bike, he states, is as reliable as a Honda, so it doesn't require hours of pre-ride prep to use it. I will hate to see the Suzuki go as I had some epic rides on it over the years, but, at least it is staying in the family, and I have no room in my small garage or sufficient finances for multiple motorcycles.

Was the trauma of letting the Suzuki go too much? Have you crawled inside a bottle of Gin? I heard from Utah Slim, and he is still getting butt slammed by the man and is not likely to make it

Maybe, since it is just a few days away, we can pick a time to meet there on Saturday to booze and bullshit. It's been too long, and I miss you (I am slowly going insane)
