Although there is a rain shadow between the Pacific Ocean, and the AV, the ocean water mass is still nearby as the crow flies and it still has some influence on the harshness of the weather. As well, and perhaps more importantly, the cold fronts that come down the interior of the western continent from the Arctic, hit Montana and Utah with significant force. So, there is real hard, very cold, northern, winter weather, that tapers off the further south one goes. By the time such fronts get to Mexico, they are not generally an issue, and, they never get to where Walker lives. All that said, real estate prices, and population density, also reflect, to some degree, the climatic conditions of an area, so, as an example, Malibu has better weather than Page, Arizona, in terms of days under freezing or over 100*. And, real estate prices certainly support this fact. Thus, there are always trade offs when it comes to affordable "rent", since people tend to crowd around the spots with the best living conditions, which drives the rent up. But, with crowds and growth, come both opportunities combined with sundry social ills and issues related to crowding and dense population. In some ways, you pick your poison, since harsh weather can be quite difficult itself to deal with, especially when one gets old and banged up.
I doubt that any of you noticed that Conde Nast picked San Miguel de Allende as the #1 destination in the WORLD. I don't agree, but it is an interesting choice. The local community went ape-caca and started pointing out every flaw in this little town. And godnose it has a bunch.

But what I was getting around to saying is that the weather is GREAT here. It will probably get down to 50 tonight, and it is about 78 right now. Very typical, very average. At 7000 ft if we are too cool we step into the sun, too warm, step out of the sun.

How is the Gpz project coming along? Give me some warm distraction to think about... Project cars, bikes, gals, smog, traffic, anything. :-D

It is 18 Deg with not a breeze or cloud in the sky. Yes, the natural beauty is second to none however. How cold did Walker say it gets at his place? I don't seem to remember this glitch in his program.
Too soon?

Nah.

The GPz is still in the same state. I have to finish cleaning the carbs and getting them back together and on the bike. I need rebuild kits for the brake master cylinders as well, but I already found some on eBay for under $40 each. The REX is running nicely, awaiting its new owner to find it. I started at an asking price of $4250. I've brought that down to $3750. I'm hoping it'll go soon. I'm itching to get moved in with the g/f. The Notch still needs a re-tune and a smog check.

At least work has been going pretty well. We continue growing and I continue to gain more responsibilities. Good fun.

Excellent update!

I always thought Thousand Oaks was an weather oddity, as it got so damn hot in the summer and cold (compared to surrounding communities) in the winter, yet it still is prime So Cal real estate.

I still need to photo and post the pics of that goofy Gpz 550 with sidehack here locally, if I can still find it. Just because it is such a freak.

I expected weather considered by many (mostly Southern California Natives) to be "extreme". But, breaking records in all arenas is a bit much. Especially in my very first year. And true, had I done this even just five or ten years ago, I am sure it would be much more painless and challenging in regards to the pain level and complications.

It fluctuates hourly, but the forcast for Sunday / Monday is in the area of a 32 deg high an a low around 6. :o My high tech NASA calibrated $15 indoor outdoor thermometer records annual highs and lows. After last night, the low dropped to 16. The high, from last August remains at 117.

It's dipped all the way down to 32 the last couple of nights here. No snow, but the farmers wind machines have been roaring away at night
