What part of Utah is that? I am headed out to Saint George next month and hope to check some of the local trails out.
This is just West of Page / Big Water off 89. There are all sorts of neat spots right around Kanab, UT.

What are you planning on bringing out to St. George? I would love to meet up with you and can show you some really neat spots, with easy to difficult level trails just East of St. George. Give me Five hours, or a shorter afternoon time block and we could have a great time! Plus, it would be nice to finally meet the Mystery Man!

Bring any of your Jeeps, or if you are in a rental car, I would be happy to even pick you up over in Kanab and we could cruise around and have a great BBQ lunch, then see the sights in the Power Wagon. I got plenty of room and I am not afraid to get it dirty! The Coral Pink Dunes are right outside of Kanab (our own 1904Kid may be out there camping during that period) and the Hoodoo Rocks, old film sites and the Cowboy Inscription Rock Canyon from the late 1800's is not too far down the road as well.

Let me know! ;)
Hi,

I am bringing the WK2 (Grand Cherokee) out there. Going to be staying in St George to visit some family out there.

I'll PM you when we are out there. Looks like Kanab is about 85 miles from where we are staying.

Would be cool to meet you.

Sounds good! It might be a little over an hour, but as with anything North of Vegas, it is a pretty drive. Even the two lane roads out there are rated at 65 mph (unless you are entering one of the little towns or in a construction zone, which have proven to have pretty rapid drops in posted limits, and are seriously enforced).

Let me know... at the very least we could roll through nearby Hurricane, epicenter of the hard core cult-like Fundamentalist LDS clan. Of all things, they have an amazing Ice Cream / Dairy shop to visit, and it is always a hoot to cruise town to see the sights and get followed around by the local "Goon Squad".

Sucks that Zion and the other national parks will be closed down.

Planned this trip six months ago and to have this shit happen is pretty disappointing.

Well, Highway 9 runs through Zion. I understand the park services will be closed, but you can still drive through the whole thing on your own. That is pretty much what I did anyway, a self guided drive about last year in the off season.

I strongly suspect that this whole shut down thing will blow over in a few days, regardless. Too much pressure. Just a attention grabbing tug of war. But, both parties and the whole administration should face sanctions for allowing it to go this far.

But yes. I am sure many tourists are completely frustrated after making plans, travelling long distances and getting their families hopes up of a good time.

I followed a couple of those links and had to calm myself down. There is so much that is so wrong in our government right now.

I still read the LA Times most mornings online to remind myself why I left the USA. It is like reading reports from an asylum.

However, I am going to post a link on a new thread to a "feel good" story. Title "Jordan Farmar".
