I love that toy, BL.

Those things seem to be one of the favorites down here in Central Mexico. None look as good as yours, though.

He keeps his locked up and guarded by a killer 250 pound dog, so they have not had a shot at stealing it and taking it to Mexico.

After foolishly selling off the one I had purchased brand new and had taken care of (maintenance-wise anyway) it took me several years of going through several different versions trying to get one with a perfect body and all the while experimenting with the "perfect" powertrain / suspension / wheel and tire combo.

I finally found this one, with a cherry body but a wasted transfer case and tired motor. Perfect, as I was going to replace those anyway. I think I got it for a few hundred dollars... anyway, it was Gold, but straight as an arrow. By the time I was done building it, and using it for a season or two, it had developed some nicks and scratches. Amazingly, to this day, it has never been on it's lid, or even tipped on it's side for that matter.

When my son joined the "Young Marines" a few years back he urged me to make a "Army Jeep" out of it, so I went with my own rattle-can Camo job. Sometimes I think it looks great, others I think it's a bit too cliche' Red Neck in appearance and consider taking it to the modern version of Earl Schiebe for a cheapo glossy paint job. But, when I asked my son about it again the other day, he said no, way. I guess it does serve to hide out in the boonies when the Revenuers are looking for you, and it does lend a little cred when you happen to roll into a meth lab hidden up in the hills and you have to talk your way back down the trail. But, it seems to scare some modern Jeep owners and 'normal' city folk when you happen to roll past on a tight trail.

I carry pics of the car in it's original shape as I bought it in the glove box. No one believes it is the same vehicle. Maybe I'll dig them out and post them up. I also promised a mod-list. I'll have to get on that little project too.
