Tri-Tip on sale at my local Ralph's
Got 2 slabs at about 2.5 lbs each. They each cost me about $9. Stuffed cloves of garlic in them and seasoned them in garlic salt, granulated garlic, coarse ground black pepper, and a little Worcestershire sauce. I threw one in the freezer and one in the fridge. Grilled one up about 13 mins per side. Here are the results...
Who said cutting out bad carbs had to be horrible? The broccoli was seasoned in garlic salt and pepper, and stir fried in olive oil.

It was pretty good. Cut off about 6 slices for lunch just now. I heated them up in a pan with a little butter. It would be lovely if I could eat bread so I could have a sandwich.

Yeah, I'm doing the low-carb thing again. Can't eat sugars (including those found in fruit), bread, pasta, rice, potatoes, etc. I've been on it about 6 weeks now. Down 19 lbs, but more importantly, my blood pressure went from low-mid 140s/mid 90s to 122/86 in that time frame. I haven't had it checked, but I'm sure my bad cholesterol has gone down as well. I have 11 more lbs for my initial goal, then another 30 for my next goal.

Good for you. Are you working a good exercise plan? Going for the Mexican deity effect?SonicVenum wrote:Yeah, I'm doing the low-carb thing again. HA! If my blood pressure got down to 140's over mid 90's my doctor would think that I was cured. I bet that would mean that my cholesterol would be below 300, as well? Interesting that you are having such quick success with your diet, as 3+ pounds lost per week is a very good result for any diet. At that rate, I might be able to stand a diet as I would drop 60 pounds in only about 4 months. However, results do vary depending on age and activity and genetics and all, and it would be realistic to expect that I would only lose about 1 pound a week, on a strict diet, over time. That means that it would take about 15 months to lose 60 pounds, which I would need to do to get my BMI beneath 25, which is at the top of the "normal" range. It is always fun to use an online BMI calculator and to find that you have to be a stick figure of a person to get under 25.
Of course, you can always do a BMI calculation using the formula. I used the formula and derived a factor to multiply my weight by (.143469) and it gives me my BMI, as the only variable that ever changes is the weight. The formula is:
Weight in pounds (lbs) divided by height in inches (in) squared and multiplied by a conversion factor of 703 (weight (lbs) / [height (in)2] x 703)

I seem to remember ranting about BMI on SoCalt. What a horrible, lazy standard. When anyone who has a little muscle from exercising and is in good shape has a bad BMI number, it is just wrong. But is sure is an easy calc.Tetge wrote:HA! If my blood pressure got down to 140's over mid 90's my doctor would think that I was cured. You may well discredit using the BMI, or taking it seriously, but, Kaiser Permanente, attaches extra sheets of paper concerning your obesity if you BMI calculates at 30, or greater. They also attempt to forcibly detain you if your blood pressure is too high when nurse Bertha man handles you to take your blood pressure. And, heaven help you if your cholesterol is over 180, as the pills WILL be waiting for you at the pharmacy. It is all about the numbers that result from the lab work that they order for you all the time. The doctors do not actually need to see any patients in person anymore, since the numbers tell the entire story. So, unless a person wants pages stapled to their out paperwork saying that they are obese and that obesity kills, it pays to get that BMI under 30. And. they weigh you fully clothed, which could make a difference as five pounds adds .717 to my BMI. So a mere, paltry. 29.283 BMI butt naked, would be raised to 30 with 5 pounds of clothing..... This would change you from overweight, which they verbally lecture you about, to obese, which they document with printed material. Of course, it gives you something uplifting while waiting for nurse Bertha to take your blood pressure again to see if you are fit to release to leave.jhwalker wrote:......I seem to remember ranting about BMI on SoCalt.
