B&B

Post by Tetge »

I have discovered a flaw with B&B that I must have overlooked in the past. It seems that once a bottle Is opened, it evaporates at a very high rate (almost like rubbing alcohol on the skin), even if the bottle is reclosed. It therefore pays to drink the bottle right down, since it will not survive sitting around.

After opening, one must store it in a cool dark place to slow the evaporation. It cannot be stored for long though, as it will evaporate quickly no matter how it is stored

When one lives where it gets cold, and said cold is compared to things like witches teats or the backsides of well diggers in Siberia, it is best to stock up on B&B and prevent loss of life from freezing to death

Having visited the high desert in Winter, and having also lived in Ohio during Winter, this is sound advice

Plus, it's tasty :-D

Yes, it does ward off the cold. And, I have heard that it is also effective against snake bites. But, perhaps you get it in casks, or something, since you are able to store it. I have to buy the small bottles at Trader Joe's for $13.99, since the cheapest place that I have found the larger bottle is at BevMo, and they charge substantially more than 2 X $13.99, for the bigger bottle. Unfortunately, it seems that the small bottle must have the most significant evaporation problem as it always ends up empty shortly after opening. Even if I get a couple of bottles, they have proved to have no appreciable shelf like.

But, it is tasty.

Don't think I have ever tasted it. I will stick with blanco tequila.
Yesterday bought a nice bottle of http://tequilaapasionado.mx/tequila-bes ... ho-blanco/
and a bottle of Los Azulejos Silver http://www.tequilalosazulejos.com/ You have to work your way into the site to get to the silver page...

I'll tell you, having a bottle of mix, Controy, and the two bottles in my backpack made for a careful ride home on the dirt road ;)

This is hard to believe. B&B is really good with black coffee after a fine meal. Of course, you never put it over ice or mix it. Of course, it is served in a brandy snifter. And, it is tasty, as well as fairly high proof, considering. In fact, I had to get a bottle or two at Trader Joe's today, and, I was quite disheartened to find that the price has gone up from $12.99 to $13.99 since the last time I got some. I should have stocked up before the 7.7% price hike, and, it is even more expensive at BevMo and other places. Fear of additional price hikes actually caused me to get 4 bottles.

And, you have never even tasted it? Just as well, I suppose, since the price might go up again if you started to drink it.

It is hard to believe. Sounds too upper class for this country boy.

I suppose that could be since it is quite refined (see served in brandy snifter, although it is rumored that John chugs it straight from the bottle). However you use Cointreau rather than Triple Sec and Cointreau is quite expensive and presumably at least as upper class as B&B ever could be. B&B is made in France by humble monks. You really need to try some.

Mexicans are the smartest; much smarter than the Scotch, French, or Appalachians. Especially the French.
The Russians aren't stupid either.
The Mexicans and the Russians know the time value of money; that is why neither tequila or vodka are aged.

Basic tequila goes straight to market.
Reposado, the better stuff, is aged 30 days.
Anejo, the much better stuff, is aged 1 year.

Just marketing AFAIK, they do add color to brown tequila and if they don't well then that's the really cheap stuff.
The Russians don't waste time aging but they do filter their stuff.
White Tequila is filtered, I guess.

Meanwhile the whiskey, bourbon, scotch, and brandy fools tie up their money for years, even decades.
