differential fluid?

what happens if im low on differential fluid for my tacoma?

Nothing if it's not too low. Fill it back up. In fact if your under there ,change it. If it gets too low you'll tear up the innards. There are gears and bearings in there tha need to sit in a lube bath.

The differential gears get hot along with bearings and seals. It wears the lube out and will cause premature failure. How low is it?

better question is where did it go ?
pinion shaft seal?
axle seal?
or cover? fix the leak and being a little low probabally didnt hurt anything with the exception that if it leaked out all over your brakes

Hello,

The differential is the main part in transfering your torque to the wheels and it invloves lots of friction and has to be properly lubrciated and checked periodically.Generally the differential oil level will not reduce to a considerable level unless there is a leakage.Please check with the diffrential seal to the propeller shaft side and also on the axles side.

make sure that the drain plug or nut is properly fixed and inspect for any oil leak.

In simple,it is not all advisable with a low level of diffrential fluid.
