I agree. Brakelate's got nothing. Of course, I check a map and factored in the cost of fuel alone, and decided that it was now pretty safe to call Brakelate out.xbacksideslider wrote:Fresh oil and a new chain for the Norton, so I joined some of the BTE guys; we did the Little T, Sand, Vasquez, Bouquet, Spunky, Lake Eliz, Lake Hughes, 5 loop Sunday; Lake Hughes downhill from the Rock Inn was a ball; had fun chasing and sometimes pushing the liter bikes. Now that I have some decent tires on the Commando, I'm ready for Brakelate.

Exactly. Now that he's hundreds of miles away, I feel safe taunting him.Tetge wrote:I agree. Brakelate's got nothing. Adjusted the shocks too; PITA but helped. Old Konis - you have to take the springs off of so you can fully compress the shaft until it engages in some kind of slot, you can't compress it fully with the snubbers in place so the shock ends/bushing/clevis dealios have to be removed too. Then you turn it righty tighty or lefty loosey to tighten the damping or loosen the damping. Or, is it spelled/said dampening? Two or three syllables?
In the past I've bottomed out the rear, during a day's ride, maybe once, so I'm thinking maybe a bit more spring.
So, does anybody on here have any old school shock springs? Any old Girlings or Konis or Boge Mulhollands? About 2" ID by 8" long is what they measure, I think. Mine are a little soft, so, while I had them off of those Konis, I put the bathroom scale on the drill press, compressed the springs, and came up with 90 pounds per inch. Some 100s or even 110s would be better I think.
With such lousy settings on the shocks, I can't believe that I could keep up with Brakelate on his "hand cuts" before

Re: oil & filter changed
It is of little consequence to me now since I have retired from motorcycle riding and from drag racing. This decision was forced upon me by advancing old age and near blindness, along with mental confusion. I argued my case at DMV, and, struck a bargain that I can drive a sensible cage only, in the daylight hours and no further than 20 miles from my residence, to do shopping and take care of medical needs. My brother purchased the DR-Z from me in return for relief from debts that I owed him, as he has been subsidizing me for years due to my meager retirement income, and he picked it up today and hauled it away. It was sad to see it leave, but, he can still ride so it went to a good home. The local Toyota dealer and I are in negotiations for a Prius and it looks as if that is a done deal as gasoline is too expensive these days and my days of needing performance are over. But, it was a good run while it lasted and I have no regrets......

And, I forgot to add that I have also given up alcoholic beverages forever, and, this afternoon I poured all the bottles that I had down the sink as I had no further use for them...................

What's funny is that he might have gotten away with it, if he hadn't gotten greedy. I totally bought the first post, but once he made the second, non-alcoholic post, my BS alarms started blasting.

While he was at it, he could have included that he has done the exercises on http://www.thepowerofforgiveness.com/ and that as a result he invited Richard over for din-din --- and that would have popped a flag too...
