Unusual Clutch Cable Failure

Post by 03_SONIC_BLUR »

A couple of weeks ago I was taking the Cobra out to a friends, and when accelerating away from a stoplight, I had a loud pop/bang on the 2/3 shift and the clutch pedal is flopping around freely. Called AAA and got towed home

When I opened the hood and pulled on the cable, I expected to see the end broken off and the cable frayed. Nope! It was in perfect condition

The cable stop on the sheath broke!!!!!!!!. Weird, huh?

Were you able to tell if there was an obvious cause for the breakage? My clutch cable broke in the Notch back before I went all turbo crazy, but I don't remember exactly where it snapped. I do remember it happened in a bank parking lot just down the street from Greg's first shop, so I limped it there.

Juan, there were no other factors visible. The end just broke. No weird wear, none of the other cables I've had (and I still have all the ones where the cable frayed) showed any sign. What I do know is Ford went to a supplier in Taiwan. The replacement I bought is from Maximum Motorsports
