1979 F-150 Parts Advice

Post by SVTRonDogg » Mon Dec 01, 2014 4:07 pm

Running down some parts for the father in law. He has a 1979 F-150 with a 351/400M best I have been able to verify.

He needs a radiator, fan shroud, possible a better fan.

RockAuto has some great pricing, found this for the radiator:

About $315 plus a coupon code. Any idea on the quality of these units? Anywhere else I should be looking?

Anything with a carb is pretty foreign to me. This seems like a pretty simple cooling setup however.

Based on the link that part appears to only have a 30 day warranty.

That would raise some eyebrows for me.

I checked autozone and they have three radiators (I plugged in a 1979 4WD F150 with the 400)

They all have lifetime warranty and there's an auto zone in almost every town.

And as far as a fan is concerned, there's an abundance of electric fans available that can easily be wired with a thermostatic switch drilled into the thermostat housing. I have a Lincoln Mark VIII fan wired through a 75-amp relay for my Fox. It works great. I think Carlos sells those Mark VIII fans.

Noted the warranty on the Vista Pro.

Pro Parts has a 24 month on these two:

Don't need the trans cooler, but I guess you just disregard the connections.

Anything that is 3 or 4 rows? I've only seen 1 or 2 on the Spectra units.

I've used Ron Davis radiators in the past. It might be overkill for this application, but they are top notch.
