Unless the video evidence has been doctored, it appears that The1904Kid is doing really well in the mid-season Sttars races. He's come a long way, and he is starting to be rewarded for his efforts. I am officially scared!

Here are the vids. I am posting up the Novice Heat later tonight where I stalled on the start and came back to pass a few guys. Now that I am healthy and started getting the bike really dialed in (messing with suspension settings and got new triple clamps), i'm starting to pick up some speed!

Next race is Horse Thief Mile...can't wait!

The crash was good. But, I almost jumped out of my seat when the novice main went into some crazy speed up mode..... Still, one can see that the Honda might have a bit more power than a DR-Z, and, power is definitely good on the pavement.

I too about Sharted when The Kids' bike blasted off into buzz saw mode.

What did you think of the angle of that shot in the "Beginner" race, where the Yami practically jumps over the top of him? To appear that close on Go-Pro, that fuggin guy had to have put skid marks on the side of his helmet!

Reminds me of my first MX race down at Carlsbad in the early '80s. On the big down hill stepped section, I slowed and was single-jumping them, when some other "Beginner" came through there and more than doubled the jump - seriously I remember looking over and seeing his undercarriage at eye level. And I had to be 12 feet off the ground at the time! Crazy stuff. Ahh, but I'll save my old war stories for some other time and place.

Damn good starts though Dave! Great to see you modulating the throttle and slipping out what can be a "light switch" of a clutch (Is yours a slipper in that Honda? The Slipper in my KTM hooked up and worked great, but you sure could not slip it out to get going). I appreciate the good, smooth loading and engagement of a clutch even more so now, as I have been spending the week teaching my son how to stop/start/shift his first manual transmission bike... a CRF230F. It really is tough, as I just want to "program" him from my own brain. But, it takes much time and experience and a real investment to get smooth. Something I honed drag racing Tetge at LACR those hundreds of passes. But, it is hard to stand there in the heat and be patient. Even with your own child. Sometimes it seems like communicating with strangers and instructing them, such as at all those ExtremeSpeed Events, was easier. They took it for granted, and listened. And they learned. Your own kids question you, your qualifications, your logic and everything else. I just tell my son that I have done good work in the past... don't doubt my credentials. Hell, I even got a young punk with a pony tail in a new Black Coyote 5.0 Mustang up to speed! That, and some RonnDogg slob in a DSG Cobra like my own. After a few events, they repaid my efforts and investment in terror, sweat and a sore throat by promptly going out and smoking me! Some say they even posted video of me spinning out, just trying to keep up. Life simply isn't fair. But, I guess I know how Tetge feels now after showing me all his moves and bringing me up to speed and introducing me to his cut throat crew. Now that he's shown me the ropes and nurtured me to a godlike speed of his own, he gets no respect either. So I guess what goes around comes around. One day "TheKid" will get his payback; Getting old, having his own kids to instruct and tell war stories to. Then he will understand.

check out this pic someone just posted up! it was this dude's first time riding supermoto. apparently he holds the 250cc Track record at Chuckawalla and is an expert level road racer.

I realize that big air makes for good pics, but, as all racers know, when you are in the air, you are not accelerating. So, sometimes it is faster to stay closer to the ground. Naturally, when the pros clear a bunch of stuff in one triple, and stuff like that, it is faster, but pro motocross courses seem to be laid out to enhance such jumping as the crowd loves it. I also noticed that in the video a lot of the fast guys were not sticking a leg out in the corners, but, instead, they appeared to be using more traditional road racing stances. And, this too makes sense to me.

Still, anyone who races supermoto is crazed, and, must love pain.

I do have a slipper clutch and it is indeed very catchy. Here is the thing with my starts...

I currently run pretty low gearing, 14/48. My very first race ever I never had a practice start and I tried it out in first gear. I should also mention that I do not know how to control a wheelie, so when the flag dropped, I wheelied and almost killed myself and went into turn 1 in last. After that, I've been starting in 2nd ever since. I know I need to practice starts but the time and place is to do them is always difficult to work out.

Since I am not greatly affected by gravity like you large folks, it allows me to start in 2nd with minimal slippage. My goal is to install a hole shot device and learn how to wheelie so that I can get even better drive, using first gear.

I still have one more vid to make and upload of the novice heat where I stall the bike on the line. I make some moves though which should make for an ok video. Stay tuned..
